Our civic society appears to be degenerating into a self centred one.It is sad to hear this story, worse to see government apathy and corruption but still worse to see our enligtened friends question the rationale to support them. We are willing to pay huge taxes and insurance contribustions to supportand subsidise Whites in europe or america but question supporting national heros families. What these Guys did cannt be repaid but few hundred rupees and that is bare minimum that a nation can give to show its Gratitude
It is pathetic to see the role of bribe here! But what causes Tantia Tope's 3rd generation languish in poverty and still expect perks from the government? Where did the daring nature of Tantia Tope disappear? Did it disappear with him? What stopped the generation after him to fight against the poverty? Will the 10$ paid as pension to the family solve the problems? Many questions... unanswered! I suppose the pensions, subsidies, should should first be stopped ... there is nothing called free lunch! Instead they should be remembered, respected and honoured with certain commemorable titles. There it stops! Encourage people to work hard...

Do you mean to say if a soldier dies in battle his family should not get pension ? The families of all those who supported the British have remained very well of. Kindly tell what example should our younger generation follow ?

Buddy He was no odinary soldier and Nation owes them something. If you feel it doesnt then why celbrate 1857 is is long old event.Sleep in your cosy beds.
Sincere thanks to Neena and Shivnath Jha for their efforts in securing help for the freedom fighter's heirs. Many salutes to the brave heart and legendary Tatya Tope!!!
There is an urgent need to form a movement to identify the descendants of genuine freedom fighers and give them sense of feeling of financial security.
Its a great shame indeed that a big company like Rediff doesn't knows the name of our freedom fighter heroes. "Tatya" is a respectable name in Marathi, its pity that nobody at the Rediff has been mature enough to find the mistake.
I request the editor to make the correction immediately and avoid further embarrassments.
