waste of money
by Sameer Bhagwat on Jun 08, 2007 09:21 AM  | Hide replies

Nasa is a waste of money. The same money could have been used to render homeless and jobless people in US to lead a better life. Here too in India, when millions are underpoversished, there's the onset of the project called 'Chandrayan'. First let us make our planet a better place to live in. Then we can think of exploring the outer space so on and so forth.

never read such an innane comment. For readers like sameer i would urge them to visit the facility at least in their life time and then really comment as to what NASA does or what it has set out to achieve. I believe that NASA is amongst the most understood organization. They may not have the greatest of PR and marketing but what they have done and are setting out to achieve is truely amazing. I had been fortunate enought to visit the facilities at NASA and Kennedy Space Centre couple of weeks ago and i must confess it was an eye opener and truely amazing. Orlando is known for its mikey mouse and theme parks. Any one visiting orlando or even US for the matter, NASA is a must see. Then only one will understand as to how they are making the world a better place to be for all of us..

It just shows your ignorance Sameer. You should welcome the new developments otherwise you will never discover anything new.

Your thinking is wrong Sameer. Without exploration to newer frontiers, there would be no "development" of technology. Space exploration is possible only when several areas of advances in technology are integrated. You will get a lot of spin-offs through each launch experiment. In my view it is not a waste of millions of dollars but a very useful investment.

This is not to undermine the tackling of burning problems of developing countries. We cannot link the two. Corruption, population problems, multiple elections, meaningless travel, huge administrative machinery expenditure etc needs to be curtailed to render homes or generate food for homeless and hungry. But kindly do not link development of technology or space exploration to the hunger problem or homeless/underprivileged. That is being too political.
