Don't expect this from western-convert-Nehru and anti-Hindu family led government.

This MF Hussain needs to cut into pieces by ourselves to teach hooligans like this a lesson so that no one can dare insult Hindus.

Depicting Gods and we believers treating a pratima or vigraha as God are different things. There is a proper procedure by which we instill God-life to a pratima or vigraha and there is a proper process for visarjana. These processes are sacred and normally done with proper care and respect.

I remember one blogger had pointed out we did not find God disrespected by the famous bidi brand 'Ganesh Bidi'. Likewise there are numerous examples.

It would be avidya to get worked up even if somebody out of mischief seeks to humiliate our Gods. It only would speak of their statutre and not hurt our Gods in any way. We have the finest philosophy expounding Maya, how can a work of Art be elevated to being or insulting God? Better to take those work of arts on artisitic merit alone.

I do hope that Indian artistic sensibility shall prevail over these Bajarang Dal type of activists and Hussain's work of art would be valued on artistic merit. This kind of mindset is Avidya.

Foolish Muslimes never realize that they are being "ghettoized" by crooked congressis/leftists to form a solid vote bank for them! Taslima will continue to live in India and write as well. These are just sound bytes by congress/left to keep the dimwit Moslimes happy!

Did you treat her like a guest Mr Mukherjee
by Libran on Dec 23, 2007 02:33 AM  | Hide replies

We have a tradition of Athithi Devo Bhava!!
Did you treat her like a guest? Heck, No. She was hounded by Islamists who cannot face the truth.
Comrades drove her out of the night from their state - Na*mardh log who did not have the ball to say anything to Muslims 0 their vote banks.
and Now you have the gall to tell her how to behave!! If you really have guts - tell muslim fundamentalists to keep quiet. If you have any shame left, treat her like a guest and give all the necessaru freedom in your state Mr. Mukerjee. I know you are too selfish and gall-less, ball-less person to do that.

Well said. Strictly speaking there is no legality in this 'guest talk'. On the other hand it could be seen as an avoidable intervention into a person's privacy rights.

The value paradigm she seeks to propagate is consistent with Indian Constitutional values. The ones opposing her are blatantly unconstitutional.

However, the need here is not for guts but for judicious and humanistic approach ; delicate handling to defuse the situation. For this reason perhaps the wise minister has opted for a cultural approach. We need to trust that all concerned, be it from the state or from centre have opted for 'safety first' approach for the writer.

Libran,

Your perspectives are valid as far as the end result is concerned. Question is how do we reach that level of maturity and civic sense in the society. You are starting from 'I AM OK - YOU ARE NOT OK' stance, such an approach takes us nowwhere. Democracy functions better when there is adequate reality perception.

The issue which needs resolution really is making the ignorant and hyper-sensitive Muslims masses view the matter from faculty of reason and adhere to Constitutionality. Constitution provides basic freedom but it takes time for a developing society to provide these freedom to each other; their fellow citizens.

In the present case governments from all three political formations have acted together to safeguard and keep the issue in proper focus.

You can see from Sajal's response that even educated Muslims will take time to cool down!

I am all for freedom of expression, however, this privilege should be used with responsibility, care, tact and respect for the feelings of masses who have nothing to do with the personal plight of Doctor Talisma Nasreen.

I understand she has a book coming out in January 2008. The book may contain material which in light of trend or the past writings, hurtful of Muslim feelings, not only in India but the World over.

This may cause demonstrations, blood shed, loss of life or upheaval in India, creating serious problems for politicians who are providing a cover for her.You cannot bite the hand which protects your life.

Muslims do not make fun of other religions, even though a lot can be said about the absurdities, inequities caused by other religions.Show me one book written by a Muslim author injuring the feelings of followers of the other religions. Then why should Muslims be target of any ridicule through farce, misreprsentation by those, who do not fully comprehend the beauty, values or the way of life propounded by their religion.

I do not see freedom of expression exercised by Dr Nasreen in writing books on plentiful injustices caused by other religions, though granted she might have been slighted personally more by her own religion than others. If she is truly a champion of humanity, she should address the menace caused by other religions, instead of just brandishing Islam.

The buck does not stop at Islam.

Confused Mind
RE:Don't Bite The Hand That Protects You
by Confused Mind on Dec 23, 2007 07:45 AM
Division, terrorism, violence start with the mind -- the roots of which are in 'organized religion'. Unless the mind is cleared, and majority of people find clarity and purpose in life by pursuing knowledge and excelling in skills, and figuring out interdependent ways of coexistence, to develop their own -- body, mind, emotions, intellect, creativity & consciousness -- through art, science, research, technology, education, sports, films, music, athletics so on and so forth -- such time-wasting activities will going on and on. Saying that this religion stands for peace, that stands for equality, that stands for justice -- is just hallucination and folling oneself. Most so-called religious people, suffer from poor self-concept and lead a miserable life and put it out on others as well in the name of self-righteousness and false ego.

I have not read any of the books of Doctor Talisma Nasreen. Her books might entirely deal with social injustice, which is acceptable. My concern is that Muslim have complained that their feelings were hurt. We should all try to get along with each other and create an environment of peace and harmony. People have enough problems as it is theminute they wake up in the morning , why to add one more.

"creating serious problems for politicians who are providing a cover for her.You cannot bite the hand which protects your life. "
-----
The fact of the matter is that UPA, Left and NDA are all together in protecting her. This ought to be evident to you by now.

Do you seriously think that those Islamic terror elements who instill fear in common people are protecting Indian society?

I am not familiar with any of the works of M.Hussain, therefore ,I am not in a position to comment of his art work, however,he could not have depicted anything more or less than the sculptures, incredible art work in nudity and pornography crafted on the walls of the great Hindu temples.

There is the legacy of Khwaja Abbas who gave us 'Saat Hindustani'. Wish you would abide by that legacy. There is the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister who helped shaped the first policies for modern secular education. Wish you resonated to that kind of depth and timbre.

There is a need for a more balanced view. Both Talisma and Hussein should know freedom of expression should be sensitive to religious sentiments. To support Talisma and range against Husein and vice versa smacks of crude hypocrisy! What Indians need to appreciate if God is the supreme being, needs no mortal humans to preserve Godss sanctity.

Anyone trying to compare must be out of their heads. Only brainwashed jihadis can.

BOTH Taslima and MF are 'SCOUNDRELS' who earn their butter by BATTERING others SENTIMENTS. and ofcourse it is a fact that we need or support Taslima because the enemies enemy is a friend.
