and as far senate or congress is concerned there is no need to recite so called hindu prayers.hindu prayers are not meant to be recited before political bodies.it may seem good to indian peoples there but they will face vicious attack from christian fundies.
i am surprised to see limited views of christian fundies.they are second worst than islamists.only instead of using violence they use soft spoken words to propogate their hatred of other religions.
If you understand the meaning of these prayers, these seem to be Universal and nothing Hindu about it. In fact these prayers do not even mention about God.

only living god, where is he ? Did you watch some movie ? American constituion is NOT based on bible, but actually SEPARATES church and state. But how can you explain that to converted morons , sigh.... On a more serious not, why does your god command, why cannot he offer love, pleased by bhakti and seva ? Sounda more like some king rather than God.
Congradulations to Americans for their attitude to accept anything good from anywhere without any prejudiced mind like our hypocratic sicularists and the so called Intellectuals in India.

We are secular. Hindu prayer will mean Hindu fanaticism. If it is any other, it is ok. For me, any prayer which does not insult some one or call for hurting some one is ok.
It is indeed good news to hear that the California State Legislature is being opened with the recitation of Hindu prayers by priest Rajan Zeid on the 27th Aug. This reminds us of the 'Ramabai Association' founded in 1887 in USA with the initiative of the first woman Sanskrit scholar of recorded history. Rig Veda is the oldest scripture available to mankind and Sanskrit is the ancient language through which many languages have originated and they have not been given their due place and recognition in India. Study of these are often termed as an act of saffronisation by the psuedo-secularists of the country for their own political gains. Today Sanskrit holds the key for many modern applications be it computer language, aero-dynamics, medicine and if proper fillip is given for its study and practice, India can offer much more to the rest of the world. Hence, this move of the US Senate as well as California State Legislature should be welcomed by all true Indians.

Language is meant for communication. Sanskrit was an Aryan language much like Latin was a Roman language, today not spoken even in Rome except within Vatican. Ironically Jesus Christ spoke Hebrew but Romans developed Christianity, thus the copyrights. Sanskrit just faded out of use like Latin. It requires to be developed and first brought to common usage before research terms are added to it to make it worth further development. Language constantly needs to be developed. Its alright for sages to continue using it and educate others about ancient knowledge of the scriptures like latin is used at Vatican whilst research and development continues in other languages. Countries like Japan, Korea, China, Scandinavian countries all developed without Sanskrit or Latin. Attitude of people develops a country not the language. Japanese never flew aircrafts of Wright brothers during the 2nd world war and Pearl Harbour will tell you they were efficient. In India due to its multi-lingual, multicultural status, the child is as it is burdened with more languages than his/her counterpart in a developed country. When a child studies more languages, time, energy and mental faculties are utilised due to the system requiring it from the child. The child is forced to devote that much lesser time towards vocational development and thus an Indian child already begins with a handicap. Why add one more language to his/her burden? Sanskrit lacks practical application today and best left at that.
