Pathetic situation at Passport Office
by Ram Arvind on Apr 03, 2007 11:01 AM  | Hide replies

That is very much true...the situation is very pathetic at the passport office. Recently I paid a visit to the local passport office at GHAZIABAD to get my passport stamped with ECNR. The previous day when I paid a visit, I had clearly inquired the procedures needed to be followed to get this job done. As per the clerks instructions, I turned up the next day with all the supporting documents. But still I had to run in circles. The staff there is very irresponsible...needless to say...irrespective of the work done or not...they coolly receive their salaries on time.

I went to the passport office early at 8.30am to avoid the long queue and the rush. I was the fourth person in the queue at the counter when they opened. But I was denied submittion..reason stated by the person behind the counter was "aapka form verification nahin hua hai...karke le aao...334 mein" For a moment, I felt like he was doing me a favour. I insisted whether verification was required...He started replying in a higher pitch...hhmm. I haven't come across any such rule when I was resding the instructions board while I was standing in the queue. I came out and started searching for room no. 334 which I found was locked and there was a long queue in front of the door. There were absolutely no instruction/direction boards in the complete office. Nor were there any responsible person who could answer to applicants questions. I inquired and understood that they were all waiting for the verification officer to start her daily routine. I queued up and waited before the verification officer came in and started her duty. Meanwhile, the office sweeper (as I could understand from the conversation between the sweeper and the staff person present there to control the queue) pushed in with three of his 'references'. The queue started to shout in despiar...there were ladies with kids and babies, elderly waiting in the queue...After 45 mts of waiting outside the door, I was let in for verification. After scrutiny, my application form and the supporting documents were verified and stamped with her 'valuable' signature. Phew!!! I rushed again to the counter for submission. This time, the person behind the counter started inquiring about the documents I submitted...I replied in a harsh tone..."verification karva liya hai...lelo". He paid a very rough look and accepted the application along with the prescribed fee. Thus ended my ordeal at the passport office. I went in the evening and collected the passport. Before I left the counter, I rechecked my passport several times just to ensure they haven't tampered it...you can never ever rely on these 'servants'. After I felt OK, only then I left the premises.

Mr. RAm here we people lack, if you had been facing such problems telling you very frankly the best way is to demonstrate.

Kindly learn one will have to take the initiative believe everyone is afraid of law.

And today once you have started they are no one to put you in trouble.

Believe me I did this in the DESU Office and forieng registration office.

The people sitting there did not had any knowledge of the working and whatever they feel like they did so....

I shouted in the way of demonstration and look i got support almost everyone of them who were standing there. I educated them about the public complaint department of the DESU, and I even told the office look we can easily go in press with your name and to the complaint department as well, nothing will happen to us but definitely we will get your enquiry done in a very fast way.

The moment that officer listened to this he started working properly.

So we only have to take initiative rather than waiting for others to take initiative....

I had a different issue when I approached Bangalore passport office for my wife's passport. Police said, since she hasn't stayed there for 1 yr, her passport cannot be processed. Then he referred us to a person who works in the passport. When we approached her, she asked us 17000 to process her passport. I saluted her and came back.
After few days I found out that, the lady was police guys wife...
