Responsibility of Nuclear Weapons States
by Murali on Mar 07, 2006 08:54 PM

How can we sell NPT to aspiring states when there is a gaping hole per which it is NOT binding on Nuclear Weapons States NOT TO ATTACK NON-Nuclear states with any sort of nuclear weapons (including low yield bunker buster bombs, etc.)India is probably the only country in the world to UNILATERALLY declare NOT ONLY that, it will not attack a non-nuclear weapons state with nuclear weapons, BUT ALSO, that it will not undertake a Nuclear FIRST STRIKE against even a nuclear weapons armed state.

I am amazed and flabbergasted how nobody amonst the the educated interviewers thought of this MOST IMPORTANT question. Will Dr.Weiss clarify this important point please? Thanks, Murali, United States.

N-Deal

The NPT laws are not sancrosant and cannot provide a superior status to five countries on the basis of their becoming nuclear powers prior to 1970.The status ought to be decided on the basis of their international conduct & behaviour and the potential to disturb International peace for their National interest.India would certainly qualify as the most peace loving country to become an integral part of the controlling regime by whatever means necessary.
Hence to accord a lower status to India is unwarranted and unjustified on any moral or physical ground.

illogical to the max
by CrazyView on Mar 07, 2006 03:38 PM

This may sound crazy.
But people/group of so called protectors of humanity, have discarded their sense of logic and common sense. The UN, NPT,CTBT, FMCT e.t.c are all treaties/bodies for show off only. Re-iterate for SHOW OFF only.
Just think of following and one will know why
US will liberate IRAQI people (read US will invade IRAQ even without UN disagreements)
US will free Afghanistan ( read US will TEST its weapon system on innocent people)
U.S went ahead with their nuclear weapon program. Once they were done, they announced to the world, from now on no one has the right to make one.
Big 5 will never abandon their nuclear weapon and thus would always induce fear.
Dr Leonard Weiss open up your eyes and tell your friends what they need to do first.
Why not first U.S and other nuclear states declare how many hidden reactors they have for weapon grade materials. They will never do. Through NPT Dr Leonard Weiss live in an illusion that 183 nations signed the NPT and hence they will never become nuclear weapons state. Let me tell you this, every country will become nuclear state once they have the necessary things in place.

Chat with Weiss

At the outset, it is clear Mr.Weiss is a very biased man.He says NPT cannot ban weapons from weapons state as they already possess weapons! So what? All nuke bombs can be 'defanged' if the intentions are honest. So it is clear that the intentions of the 'gang-of-five' as also that of Mr.Weiss who authored the NPT were never honest! And at this juncture in time, the 'gang-of-five' and Mr.Weiss must hang their head in shame, for they have been the worst proliferators and abettors of proliferation in human history. They have violated their own edicts and commandments inscribed in the NPT tome to the last alphabet! It hit the American interlocutors like a ton of bricks when the sauve and patient Jaswant Singh enumerated every act of misdemeanor and immorality indulged in by the Yankees,Chinese,Brits & French right through their NPT campaign era.The Yankees helped Israel,Chinese the Pakis and Korea, while Brits & French propped up the Apartheid Nuke-bomb.All the while the Indian scientists developed their own technical know-how through entirely independent effort. Not just that, they even had developed foolproof secrecy which none of the undecover agents of the 'gang-of-five' could penetrate!

Occam's razor or Occam's paradox
by N J Ramesh on Mar 07, 2006 02:05 AM

The law formulated by Shri Leonard Weiss is an internal law of US. This law is consistent with NPT and would become inconsistent with NPT and non-proliferation ethos if an exception is made to India. So from this standpoint Shri Weiss is perfectly justified in making the statement- "N-deal is not justified".

However, India did not sign NPT because it had already taken a confidential decision to go nuclear by 1964. It has also strictly adhered to Non-proliferation ethos i.e. if the definition of non-proliferation implies giving N-tech to other nations.

India has not violatd any of these laws and has been totally consistent with intent and ethos behind the formulation of these laws.

One prays that within the basis of legal principles the validity for making a notable exception to India can be found and this would become the ground for her to become an NPT signatory as a 'have' state.
