Politics, money and the media

It is unfortunate that in our country any party in power at center or any party with lot of funds use the media as their beat and cheapest way of promotion for them.During the process they find always the way of defaming others as best and cheapest. And lands up in sting operation. Because there are lot of talented personnels available in this country and sell their talents at the cost of peanuts, we find successful detective sting operation on television channels.Example: If I have cheated this country with few thousand crores rupees, it will be easy for me to hire a detective agency tied up with media and create a sting operation against opposition for few lakhs rupees.
The author himself haas quopted examples of Tehlka, money for question, telephone tapping etc.

justice is premised on proportionality. If JMM members could be let off both by the courts and Parliament for a monumental abuse of position ,the punishment of small guys looks odd.Who has not heard of subletting of houses misuse of passes ,hospitality, using govt funds for travelling for private purposesincluding Tirupathi or Rameswaram. A thorough public probe into the lives of the netas and not a hurried dip in the Ganges is necessary to wash our sins. If one is a professional like lawyer can take brief while sitting in Parltament there is no harm.....fear of contempt stops further elaboration of the FRINGE BENEFITS system.Satyameva Jayate

Just another communist.
by Vikram Sen on Jan 14, 2006 10:02 PM

Brinda Karat is a typical communist who never misses an opportunity to abuse Indian culture. She should apologise to Indian people for abusing the ancient culture of yoga.

Shame to Brinda Karat. She should better settle in her communist 'utopia' if she can not respect Indian culture.

handling sting
by Soumya Srajan on Jan 11, 2006 02:18 PM

Hypothetically suppose some terrorist type of organisation forces some honest politicians or government officials to have movie made of his taking bribe at gunpoint and then releases that such movies to media and press and continues to threaten politicians that their close relatives will be harmed, unless they keep their mouth shut. This hypothesis is not that far off if one sees news about Abu Salem gang had killing some Jain and then threatning his brother etc.

Manner in which our media, press, politicians and practically every one reacted to current sting
implies that in above hypothetical stiutaion also
our whole society would have no hesitation in declaring such honest politican corrupt just on the
basis of such a tape.

It is indeed a serious matter that our lawmakers and
journalists, have decided to use such sting operation as a measure to decide honesty. Incidentally brigades of both of these categories have by and large perhaps lowest level of credibility in our society. But both of them spend most of their time declaring this guy or that one corrupt or communal or what not. Is it not better that first our journalists try to improve their own credibilty.

Dirty Politics

Mr. Kak's writeup made a very good and thought provoking reading. He has given some very apt examples of the downfall of politics in India.
National service is hardly on any politician's mind.
All he/she is concerned is SELF.
Thank you Mr. Kak.

Coalition government in democracy has its own tale to tell, where enactment of law is on rail but its excution and practice fail. Each group try to take
path of popularity rather than system of goverance.
Goverance fails as the institution and organisation dwindls but money milk is churned in the process.

"Money talks, bullsh*t walks", as the saying goes, and knowing the propensity of Indians for corruption, it's an open secret that everyone can be bought, politicians more so. The media, the fourth estate, has a crucially important role in a democracy - freedom of speech and info. Yet the Indian media, when not swallowing hook, line and sinker the crumbs from the govt info office are little more than sensation mongers - there's no investigative journalism, no in-depth analysis of the situation and worse yet, they usually fail to highlight or enlighten the public about the deficiencies of govt policies.
