Raghavendra
unfortunate india
by Raghavendra on Sep 04, 2006 12:18 PM

Mr sen, its very unfortunate that people who are awarded the noble prize like yours in our country hardly know about our tradition and culture. Culture and the traditions are the face of a civilization. Hindu Religion represents richest tradition and culture, If it has united our country for so long (6000 years), it deserve to be respected.

Even though our country was divided politically, it is united from its cultural point of view. Our tradition had been teaching us about the national values, family values and human values, Great epics like Ramayana and Mahabharatha takes the maximum credit for these values.

So most of the Indias values systems are contributions of hindu (snathana dharma) values, But, its aberration is going at great speed. Our innocent people are fooled by British and Our So called intellectuals, British wanted to break India politically so they tried their best to destroy Indian culture and hit minds with all those non-sense Aryan theory and Our So called intellectuals still feel inferior and wants to globalize themselves, these intellectuals don't have self respect and have become slaves of so called superior Westerners.

Don't mislead us Indians.......
by Sushil M on Sep 01, 2006 08:18 PM

Dear Mr Sen,

If you can't tell us the truth please....please, please don't go about mouthing stuff that you; in your experience as a celebrating leftist ultra-liberal cannot but live a day without berating and blaming the Hindus, their culture and civilisation for everything that's bad in India!! If you have a 'dhimmic' bias for the Muslims in India and the Middle-East atleast accept it....so that impressionable minds will seemingly look for the other side of the story in this era of bloodier world conflicts.

There are many aspects about Hinduism and India which even though you hate....admire and unknowingly display the same!! Arab traders, Jews, Parsis, Buddhists, Jains did flourish and their seed continues to grow in India in different proportions. How was this possible?? Obviously the Hindus were the majority in historic India (divided amongst it's various kingdoms though!!) who allowed and welcomed them prospering! ever heard of Hindu, Jewish traders in Saudi Arabia,Yemen, Afghanistan prospering? These Islamic fiefdoms today are more bigoted than their ancestral Arab islamists and the very reason India is a wounded Hindu civilisation today. Pity your servile mentality,Mr Sen.

Dear: Are you sure that We,Muslim celebrate the victory of Pakistan? I doubt about your mind.....You must be knowing the law of the land even a pakistani can not raise the flag on his home victory in our land? well let me tell you I love my country more than you love but cheering is entirly different in the game??? Dont we cheer Brazil, Italy, France etc in Soccer?( Irrespective of whether they play against india or not. Always people like you who blindly follow the anti Muslim theory, suspect the loyalty of us towards our homeland. How can u forget(If you dont know refer History of Freedom movement) that no Hindu Raja sacrifice his children for this country But Bahadur Shah Zafar, No hindu Raja pledge his son but Tipu Sultan. NO hindu pandit shed his Blood for this Land bur Ulemas got hanged for revolting against British rule.If any government wish to do something fro muslim then it will be labbeled as Muslim appeasement ? right! Then who are we? why should we not get what we want in our country. We will surely call ourselves as Hindus if you remove that as your Releigion. I love my country as i Love Islam.

If no Hindu King sacrificed there life for India it was because nobody was left alive at that time during the Mughal rule. Ayyway to name a few, there were Ranjit Singh(until his time Punjab was never under British rule), Rani Laxmi Bai,Baji Rao, Pazhassi Raja and VeeraPaandya Kattabomman from South.

Dear Human/Indian or Muslim(select any one of that for your self),

Thats the problem with religious Muslims. If you call the Hinduism as religion then I will LOVE my country more than my religion.Whereas you are saying "I love my country as i Love Islam".The real problem arises there as your religion DOES NOT recognize any Country as you allare always fight for Jihadi wherever possible.

Long Live India(vandemataram)

Mr. Sen
by som on Aug 25, 2006 02:32 PM

So, Mr. Sen ended up cheering for pakistan and now facing a good deal of flak from TRUE INDIANS and our CONSERVATIVES.... wait a minute gentlemen... does your religion decides your food habits to the fullest extent ? or do you wear clothes which are not in accordance to ur cultural or religious sentiments ... ? Dont be hypocretical .... if someone wants to cheer any team... its his personal choice. Would u cheer Sania Mirza if she was from pakistan ? Or will Khan trio would enjoy the same fan following if they were from Pakistan. Lets come out of these small and trivial issues.... the youth of India has to design itself to see growth of the country.

Lets be literates in the true sense of the term.

Mandeep Ghuman
Indian or Hindu or Indu...It's all the same
by Mandeep Ghuman on Aug 24, 2006 09:05 PM

Amartya Sen's take on India being a composite culture and not just a Hindu society is just a matter of perception. I am not in complete agreement with him but I can understand from where he is speaking. I am pretty certain that Sen being a godless person himself naturally extracts the instances of godlessness in the Indian history. Naturally then he is associating the word "Hindu" with some kind of belief system. And therefore he thinks it is unfair to brand India as a Hindu civilization. Mr. Sen is heavily influenced by Western European (specially French) brand of secularism where not having affiliations is a bigger virtue compared to accomodation for all. Therefore Mr. Sen's views are nothing but a classic example of debate between godless secularism vs secularism. At the very least, his views merit great attention in our great society.
Personally I dont care if people call me Hindu, Indu, Sikh or Indian: all these names are interchangeable for me. I find myself well represented by all of those names.

y can't be proud of Hindu civilization?
by mukunda on Aug 24, 2006 08:32 PM

why do you think taking pride in Hindu civilization leads to
intolerance? You use its English name - Indian civilization and it
becomes more tolerant? Strange! Indian is the english word for Hindu
and Hinduism is not a religion, it is a culture and a way of life. Just as
Amercan's way of life is called American, Indian way of life is called
Hindu or Indian. When middle eastern religions came to India, they
wanted seperate identity and didn't want to be part of Hindu culture
so they said Hinduism is a religion not culture. That way they haven't
needed to integrate with Hindu culture thet would in America, Europe
or anywhere else. Your beloved west only learnt secularism recently.
But the Hindu way of life has always been secular. That is why we
have so many forms of god and people still did not kil each other in
the name of god until middle eastern religions came here. People like
you migrate to the west and think they know and care about India.
Our culture is broad minded and Muslims and Christians are welcome
to be part of our Hindu culture.
