by Sandeep Bhasin on Aug 29, 2006 03:29 PM

Its sad that many a unsung heros die without a trace and the only thing that people like us say is, "its a sad state of affairs in this country."

Farewell Prof Warrier!

A very thoughtful effort by Rajeev to give the issue a larger perspective with shades from other parts of the country as well. Rajan's death, subsequent political events, the fight of Eachara Warrier, etc. were adequately covered in the vernacular press. However, the truth never came out is due to the fact that the political and administrative functions colluded to keep it away from the public, and the weak judicial system failed once again to deliver justice. It's a systemic failure of the type of democratic system we follow wherein accountability can be passed easily back and forth. The case of Eachara Warrier is touching since it involves the death of his only son, but there are hundreds and thousands of such people among us, who have been fighting for their rightful things, and who spend decades in court rooms. There may not be a single answer to this, but we deserve a much better version of democracy with definite accountability to each who are part of the system. Let us hope that the current economic revolution, with a more powerful middle-class would help. And individually we too take our parts seriously in building such a system!

mr hanif,
It is well known that mr karunakaran hadnt got any ample proof that rajan was a naxalite. His killing was a act og vengeance.Rajan and his friends did a skit which criticized the injustice did by the govt in the name of emergency.the real perpetrators of crime are very well alive and kicking.I personally know one of them and currently he is a high ranking officer by one of the largest engineering frims in India. So before you poke finger at anybody please think twice.

RAJAN'S TALE
by Hanif Mohammed on Apr 28, 2006 10:27 PM  | Hide replies

Its a fact that Rajan was murdered by the State, in a conspriancy which until today was not explained by concerned authorities. However, the Author completely omitted to explain why Rajan was arrested by the State. Rajan was a Naxalite, and he conspired against the State. In early 70's there was Naxal movement in Kerala, which was very disturbing. People were masacared mercilesslessly in cold blood, and Karunakaran managed to put a permanent lid on this movement with a heavy hand. Since then, Kerala is free from Naxal movement. Of course, any parent of son, who has committed a crime, will have similar feeling for their own kin. Do not understand what Rajeev is trying to portray here - glorifying a person who acted against the State ? I would request Rajeev to give the full version of both side of a coin.

Dear HANIF Mohammed,
Even if your argument that late Rajan was a Naxalite is correct, the state has NO BUSINESS LIQUIDATING persons, the way Rajan was done away with. The NAXALITES may be a lawless group, but the State is suppossed to be a law abiding entity. Wether it is Karunakaran or some body else who was responsible for Rajans disappearance, the State should NOT take law into their hands. Its amazing that you have tried to defend the indefensible.Karunakaran as the Chief Minister at that time had a defenite role to play with the disappearance of Rajan. Its a shame on Democracy and the most educated and politically conscious State in India.

Farewell Prof. Warrier
by S.Buttanna on Apr 26, 2006 04:29 PM

More than the failure of the politicians and the governments, it is the failure of the public to show solidarity with the victims. The public is generally either indifferent, if not, lacks commitment to offer assistance and pursue such matters to enable delivery of juctice.

Very Good Article
by Ajaya Mohan on Apr 26, 2006 07:10 AM

This is probably the best article, I have read in recen times. Yes, Warrior is a tru hero. But the irony is that K. Karunakaran is still alive enjoying a large support from people. That's relly difficult to understand. Why do people who workship Karunakaran do not understand all these facts?

In any case, Warriors plight and fight is very rare in independent India.

May Sri. Warrier's soul rest inpeace
by Nagendra Beladakere on Apr 26, 2006 06:57 AM

Dear Rajeev,

Thank you for a wonderful article again and I am terribly sorry to know about Rajan\'s father\'s death. Yes, our system and State could not deliver justice to a grief-stricken father. It is hard to imagine what Rajan\'s family might have gone through all these years and Sri. Warrier living with it all his life.

Yes, modern India has forgotten heroes who made a difference for us. The value system in present day India has changed for worse and it is depressing to read about corruption, jealousy, squabbles, treachery etc., Well, it is Kaliyuga and Dharma has only one leg to stand!

Farewell to Sri. Warrier - a brave man.

Nagendra.

Yes Rajeev. Respected Eeechara warrior was a real hero fighting for justice.
by Prasanth on Apr 25, 2006 10:39 PM

Yes Rajeev. Respected Eeechara warrior was a real hero fighting for justice. How ever, I am not very sure of Mr Rajan's deeds. Any ways time had come for educated people to stand in elections and make a difference in our wrong system in Kerala. Any ways, first our own career, then we will think. Is it right?
