Plan it well and Implement it
by Abhay K on Apr 10, 2006 02:24 PM

Nice article.

Chaos has already set in.
Massive traffic etc.

Public transport must be imporved and plenty available.
This will reduce the burden on the roads.

Schools, offices and othere stuff must be made available in the surrounding areas of the city.
So that the city is not burdened further.

See ya.

Traffic

The rich while travelling by cars want better roads
so they can waste more money on fuel which is an dollar exchequer and accessories and simply
dont follow traffic rules simple example using a mobile phone . World wide Driving is a privilege not
a right. but walking is a right. First train from V.T
to thane was a very long time . more than a million people travel daily would not be wrong to say that it is the life line of mumbai. but when the railways or the government does not want to even build public toilets for the commuters and such is the position of the comercial capital of India then guess people travelling by cars should not complain about shit on the streets.private Car usage in India should be taxed at 500% like in singapore and govt should improve MRT( Mass rapid Transport)

Cities in Chaos
by Raj Khalid on Apr 09, 2006 07:11 PM

The excellent articles missed mentioning that over the years illegal slums have been allowed to add two and three floors to their structures and get away scot free while a law abiding citizen has to run from pillar to post to even make minor repairs to their own buildings.

cities in India

First and foremost,in India nothing is planned. The lack in infrastructure is Abyssimal with a capital "A".Corrupt corporations and municipalities grant building licenses to anyone willing to pay. The engineers and architects supposed to run them are but pawns, the clerks and lower staff rule, then share with their bosses.

India is THE ONLY country in the world that gives all the importance, attention and notice to 4 measily cities, the so called metros! Are we crazy?Yes.
As an architect I have proposed many programs to uplift rural areas retaining their intrinsic character, making these liveable, not cut off as they are now.Of course my project have been turned down by all organizations, none would help put it into practise.
Already Chennai and Mumbai are bursting with no muicipal water in Chennai, traffic crippling life and polluting all metro cities & non. Bangalore and Hyderabad are as bad as recent events show, let us not talk of Delhi, the horrendous example of just what a capital city should not be.As long as politicians and govt.officials earn under the table, the cementification and ruin of India cannot be stopped. The people?Usual indifference, fear& egoism =lack of civic sense.

A very good article.
by Jack on Apr 08, 2006 03:37 PM

A very good article, but will any of our so called rulers even take time to think and plan for such issues. Its truly sad that for petty gains man forgets that whatever is planned is for the betterment of mankind on the whole.
Its high time that we plan into the future, if we have to avoid any major catastrophe in the future. Else the condition in our cities will turn from bad to worse, maybe worst. Hope that our top officials open their eyes soon and think and act, or else atleast move aside, so that those who are capable of making such decisions can take over and create a change. Only if all this could be a reality.

Degenerate our cities
by Iman Raj on Apr 08, 2006 12:55 PM

Well, there has been lots of hue ad cry whenever the governmant tries to take some bold initiatives taking into considerations the present and the future needs. It's indeed a matter of born instinct for indians to try to pull down/back the other person whenever someone is going ahead of him. I feel really pity as an Indian and should we changed this attitude sooner, the better for the future prospect of the country. It's infact very irony when one of the most respected lady of the nation (Lata Mangeskar) without having a second thought opposed the construction of the peddar road flyover and more ridiculous to see people writting against the proposed construction. I really would like to know what these anti-modernisation crooks have in thier mind. To stay in the Gandhiji's 19th century rural india or to upgrade the city's infrastructure to be able to accomodate the booming inhabitant and traffic. The infrastructures in big cities needs to be upgraded by the construction of more flyover, subways and metros. Whoever opposes should be deemed anti national and must be dealt severely for misusing his democratic rights. Hail the new India!

Facts!
by Girish on Apr 08, 2006 02:34 AM

I just calculated the population of top 30 cities in US. It comes to 12.5% of the population. By the way, none of the top 10 cities has a significant concentration of IT industry. And most of the top universities are also far away from the cities. Let's accept the sanctity of facts.
