I am sure many like me must have felt very uncomfortable to know that India has hurt our old friend Iran and that too due to the game of US.
We must keep our friendship with Iran intact and necessary remedial measures must be taken soon.
We will always have to be careful while being friends with US.End of the day we should not loose more than what we gain from that relationship!

Good read ! But what next ?

One of the best reads on Rediffmail. However, its sad to note that after the demise of USSR and NAM, no country is taking the lead to create some forum for balancing the most dangerous situation of an unipolar world. This article interprets an important situation, but like Marks once asked the refrain remains ' Philosophers have interpreted the world in a number of ways, but the point is to CHANGE it ' We can't even say, 'who will bell the cat' now it's 'who will bell the cannibal ? "

Many educated indian's are against Iran for one simple reason, they are educated enough to know the real issues, they do not get swayed by erroneous sentimentalism. They see Iran for what it is: a state sponsor or terrorism, and one of the prime exponents of radical Islam that is a threat to civilized people everywhere.
I do not dislike of the people of Iran. In fact it's the people of Iran who are suffering the most from the hateful regime of the Ayatollahs. If you meet an Iranian in the US, UK or elsewhere where they are free to speak their minds without getting tortured, ask them what they think of the Iranian government.
Supporting a evil regime is tantamount to being evil yourself.

Kudos to Vikram Sood for a well researched article.

We committed a grave blunder by voting against Iran instead of abstaining. We do not seem to bother about enlightened self interest. The whole world believes in that form of diplomacy. We are neither true to our vedic roots nor are we adept at getting things done with an eye on the main chance. Ours has always been a kneejerk reaction. I think it is about time all the political parties sit together and arrive at a common external policy. Let us cut our nose to spite our face, though unfortunately that seems to the be the case. Our diplomacy seems to be PAKISTAN centric though in actual terms we should ignore our small neighbour and carry on.

G'day Vikram, it is a well written article. You have said what nobody dared to say in the past. Good thing for India is to keep quiet. We must look back and see our own history when Muslims invaded India and killed millions of Hindus in the name of Allah and Quran. At that time there was no one to save us. I definitely feel the law of Karma is tormeting the islamic nations on earth. India must never raise its concern for whatever is happening in the gulf for its own good.

Wat u mean by "Educated" indians thrive to attack muslim nations???????
First of all ur absolutely wrong by saying muslim nations. No country is divided or isolated bcause of any religion, but with HUMANS( wish that day would hv come ppl recognising each other as Humans rather than differentiating each other in the name of religion.)

And kindly mind that Indians are not the one who takes initiative in Fights and wars. They just oppose the ppl who doesnt hv enough brain to think and act for the welfare of the society than their personel interest of their religion. So if Indians are willing to attack Muslim Nations (like u said!!!!!)then its for 100% sure that they are not only useless but also harmful to the entire world.

Vikram,
I agree with your article a hundred percent. I also think there is support among the web-surfing Indians for voting against Iran, because it is also about a kind of racism. Many "educated" Indians would jump at an opportunity to hurt a Muslim nation. They would also support a powerful person against a weak person. This is the level of insecurity among these people. There have been several debates in which people claim that "we should act on self-interest" and thus justify actions against Iran. They also claim that any action to side with the US is in our national interests. They accuse people who oppose as being "Comrades" meaning communists.
By any account self-interest should mean siding with oil-rich Iran, she being our neighbor.
These people think that the normal rules of good conduct among people - that you don't hurt somebody to gain something yourself - has no meaning among nations. Because of India's irresponsible, insecure decision, war may be declared eventually, and innocent people will die. Our hand will be bloody, but we can still talk about real-politik and pretend that we are a great power.
