shahbano recall
by mohd.rashid on May 17, 2005 07:46 PM

Hello readers..I feel proud of the new nikahnama model prepared by muslim women..It was long over due.If one recalls in late 80's when shahbano issue was discussed the then govt backed out due to fanatic mullah's pressures, wish it didnt,then..Even the new model prepared by same mullahs is biased as their views on subsequent maintanence, mehr, and triple talaaq..Islam is a modern religion with exceptional rights being given to women.Infact no other religion has guidelines which benefit women,as islam does, contrary to present state of woman where they were treated as inferiors by the same people who use certain fatwas or hadeeth's to take advantage of their unflagging libido..We,as common people should rise against this injustice done to our own women by these fundamentalists, after all who are we denying better life to,our own sisters, daughters and mothers..I hope we wake up before its too late..I would also like to commend one person, thats,mr.arif mohd khan who took a bold and rightful stand during shahbano issue even when he was criticized by these sinful mullahs and the rajiv govt..May we have more like him in our community who foresee and strive for better future of our people.

What is Nama and Nikah Nama?
by Dr. Rehan Ansari on May 17, 2005 05:09 PM

Nowadays 'model Nikahnama' is a much debated subject of the prejudiced people; within muslims and out too. Leaving AIMPLB nikahnama critics feel that their drafted nikahnama is going to protect the much called rights of women! The topic 'rights of women(muslim and other) is itself debatable in all aspects.
And, any Nama i.e. written paper could be disowned anytime by any party. Prejudiced should know that there is actually no place for Nikahnama in Islam at all. It is only Nikah & payment of 'meher' in cash or artcles in front of witnesses. From the next moment whole life depends only on honesty and trust. AIMPLB's nikahnama is just a first UNIFORM nikahnama with additional text which is nothing new but "Reminder of Islamic teachings towards a married life" in hard copy.
Islam has never forced anyone to live his/her wishful life. But, if anybody has to be called & known as a muslim he/she should embrace and obey Islamic basics, teachings and strictly follow them in whole life. There is no place for double standard in Islam.

Sadarunnisa, member of the Hukook-e-Niswan Mahila Sanghatan (Federation of Women's Rights) sould be congratulated for the courageous act. Razak too deserves recognition of his support. Unless Muslim women come forward and males like Razak support them, how can the pitiable state of the vast majority of Muslims can improve in the society. It is the mothers who change the social conditions in any society and such courageous ladies like Sadarunnisa (future mothers) are the source of that strength and future of muslim youths. Our salutations to her and future upcoming wemen folk. Nizam

A Nikahnama on women's terms

Congratulations to the courageous Muslim couples!
This is a clear message to AIMPLB that their days of male chauvinism are over. Also this event certainly annuls AIMPLB's claim to be the sole arbitrator for Muslims and running a parallel law system. It should realize that it is subject to the Indian Constitution and the Indian Penal Code.

A bold step forward!
by Hareesh Shastry M J on May 17, 2005 01:04 PM

It was heartening to read the article "A nikhanama on women's terms". The New model nikhanama brought out by the Hukook-e-Niswan Mahila Sanghatan (Federation of Women's Rights)is a leap towards achieving the much required and overdue freedom and equal rights to muslim women.

In contemprorary world where Knowledge is Power, education should be aptly used as a tool to strengthen the women folk so that they become capable of handling any situation.

Also, I would like to congratulate the men folk who have staunchly supported the model nikhanama (brought out by the Federation). Because, without their active support and acceptance of the fact that even women need to have equal rights, opportunity and financial freedom, the federation achieving it's task would be difficult.

Such initiations within a community should also be a role model to other organizations from any community. This would certainly avoid turning such social issues and concerns into political one which would widen the gaps between the communities.

We should not forget that as a country our nationality comes first and then comes humanity. Sufferings in any community would cause pain in other communities too.

Well what can i say.... Absolutely marvellous, brilliant.
1st let me say I am a man. This is excellent news. Women of Islam have to be emancipated if Islam is to move forward. Let the man's position be threatned and then taken away so he realises what it means to be subjected to inequities as well as idignities. The world keeps changing so why can't we in Islam. No I do not mean that we adopt western mores and values. What I mean is pure simple freedom to choose and equality. Then I do see change coming about albeit a mite slow but nonetheless tis happining. Don't wish to adda anymore in as much as i would like to. just sharing. thanks
