The last paragraph hits the nail on the head. What is required by the secular forces of the country is a clear cut approach which draws a line as to where exactly things can be allowed to go upto. Secularism is a legitimate policy and so is the demand by the minority community to protect their heritage. However, things must never be allowed to get out of hand.

Secular?

Maybe there is some truth in what this author says but why make it sound like a Muslim bashing tirade? There are other ways to look at secularism also. When religon is seperated from State, police stations, police vehicles should not have images of Gods and other religous significance.

Let the State first make a sincere attempt to seperate religon from its daily business. Maybe the author can look into this? Maybe it is easier to bash a minority that to take on the State.

You are talking of separating state and religion??..Shame on you!!..Dont you know that Kanchan gupta is person of "faith". So religion should be an integral part of state..right, Kanchan??..We r talking of Uniform civil code only because these minorities are agains it..But Uniform civil code should not be against the conformity of religion or 'faith'..
Actually we need uniform civil code more to shut the mouth of these hatred mongers like Mullahs of Muslim board and writers like Kanchan Gupta!!

Oh, what a brilliantly foolish reply "Indian Lover". So you feel that UCC is only discussed because minorities are against it. On what basis do you say that minorities are against it? On the shouts of a few noisy activists? And so if minorities are against the right of females to vote, will you say it's bad for us to support voting by women? If minorities are against birth control, will you say it's illegitimate for us to discuss that? If minorities are against these things, then it only damages their own credibility. One can't automatically gain credibility in one's arguments just by flaunting the title 'minority' all the time. I don't see that most minorities are against UCC anyway. It's just the shrill people like you who claim it so.

Then hindus have all the rights to have their own
courts. Why one should accept the courts available
now.Hindu's will have one as per hinduism. It meaningless to talk about the seperate court then
meaningless for any person to live in India if they
are not abide by the constitution and court of law.
Atleast now our goverment will wake up and ban all
this boards which are spreading false things and
make India really secular nation.

Happy Birthday A2K.

You just gave us a NEW DEFINITION of secularism.

In secularism, No law of land should interfere with religion. HOHOHOHO!

What a mockery of english. The british would die of shame, with your alleviated knowledge of this word, completely turning the meaning around.

I just can't pity you anymore.

Secular does not mean bringing all religions together, it means allowing all people to practise their religion. It also means that no law-of-the-land should interfere/contradict with the laws that come in the domain of religion, but only assist it. The present law in India allows Hindus and Muslims to marry/divorce/settle disputes according to their laws, failing which they can refer to the National law, which is essentially constitutional in nature and not religious.

Please do not mis-interpret the comments of Mr. Gupta, as his understanding is only with the constitution and religion and not with the practises established by the constitution in lieu with the Religious laws which operate without contradicting them but assisting them.

calling all practical indian muslims
by ashish sinha on May 10, 2005 12:30 AM

Please ask your law board to accept Indian Judicial system. It is fair and for all. Its way of functioning is not bound by any religion but by logical, practical thinking.

Its not that the uniform civil code is going to favour hindus or christians. Its going to be uniform for all, but it will largely go against muslim law because.. I don't know why... their laws are so illogical. It seems so foolish.

I am not denouncing muslim faith. Please pray to Allah and go to mosques, but please shunn all such practices that will take us backward in our quest of development.

I am a hindu but it doesn't matter much.. I want my country to be prosperous. Let all ambiguities be shunned forever. Please folow the Indian constitution , it has space for all.

Please do not look at hindus with suspicion. Its a myth that we are bad to muslims. We r yours and you r ours. Together we belong to india. We r all indians.

We need the blessing of both allah and lord rama for the progress of our nation.

help us.. please... be practical.

ashish
