i don't agree when the article says "other states face power deficit". I have been in north during scorching summers - read u.p., delhi and himachal. I have stayed in gujarat my whole life - for 25 years now. But what i experience in one year in maharashtra i haven't seen in my whole life. JAI maharashtra.

The Gandhi syndrome
by Dr T S Raman on May 06, 2005 10:15 AM

Quoting from your news story: "...one of the men, who had come with the councillor, screamed, "There are two air conditioners in this room, while in my house not even a bulb works..."

The MSEB Chief Engineer and his staff are serving the public. For discharging their duties efficiently, they require a minimum level of amenities and personal comfort. The air-conditioners in his OFFICE room are there for this purpose. If the Chief Engineer had kept two air-conditioners in the bedroom of his residence, and ensured there was no load-shedding for his residence, it would have been PERHAPS objectionable. "PERHAPS", because: (1) a public official is considered to be on call 24 hours of the day, and he might very well be doing his official work even from his residence; and (2) he needs some personal comfort to get a good night's sleep and keep himself in good shape for attending to his duties the next day.

HAVE A HEART PLEASE! Don't take Mahatma Gandhi's example of keeping oneself under physical discomfort -- like travelling third class on railways -- as suitable or necessary for a public servant. Minimum Comforts are necessities, not luxuries. ALL public servants need it.

sainiks should act maturely
by ashish sinha on May 06, 2005 12:50 AM

Why don't these shiv sainiks have some sense. If power is not there, how can the chief engineer supply power ?

Why don't the sainiks punish those who steal electricity by hooks OR beat up those who default on their electricity bill ?

Why dont they go to households and try to educate prople on the virtues of saving electricity ??

Its very easy to hold morchas and show the public that you work for welfare of masses. Please wake up you hypocrits. Do some thing constrictive. Stop theft, increase awareness to save power. Educate people about how they can save electricity. Send petition to CM about developing non-conventional energy sources.

Act like an educated Indian you shiv sainiks.

Jai hind.

Power crisis in Maharashtra
by rrsharma on May 05, 2005 10:27 PM

It is amazing, how could these politicians promise free power to farmers when they were aware of the enormous shortfall in the demand and supply. May be they might have thought that any way they shall get no power, so why not make it free and ride the popularity bandwagon. They were caught unawares by the smart farmer, who any way got free power by putting a hook on the line.
