I agree that there is coincidence in the killing of congress workers in cuddapah however I see no reason for using strong afffiliation to the CM or for that matter to highlight the moaists. I thought they are called PWG in AP. I would emphasize clear distinction in the reports presented. For quite sometime I have been following syed jafri's reporting. He presents biased and irresponsible reports which the editors of rediff post anyway. Over time rediff has become one of those sensational english media reporting agency, alias irresponsible reporting agency. I am sure why everyone hates rediff these days.

Maoists in Andhra Pradesh

The much touted "peace initiative" of Chief Minister YSR with Naxalites has come to naught as the Naxalites were never interested in peace per se - except as an interregnum to be used to regroup and restrategize in the face of losses sustained by them during the earlier TDP regime. YSR talked about removal of "root causes" of Naxalism just as Musharraf talks about the need to remove "genuine" grievances of Muslims if Al Quaeda is to be checkmated. What is ignored by both YSR and Musharraf is the single minded quest for power that underlies the terrorism of both Naxalites and Osama. That is why the CPM crushed the original Naxalite movement in West Bengal as they did not want a rival centre of power.

It is necessary to crush Naxalism with a heavy hand as it is not a force for redemption of the poor landless villagers but merely a means to capture political power. Naipaul describes this phenomenon well in his book "Magic Seeds" where the setting is Naxalism in Andhra !

While all attempts must be made to provide succour to landless villagers; Naxalism must be finished. The Chattisgarh move to arm villagers to take on Naxalites is one way to go.
