by Chandraprakash Shah on Jun 13, 2005 09:32 PM

Dear editor,

It is very much important to know who provide jobs to keralians. Only skill does not work. You must have a brain and money to start up a business.

India's quiet revolution: Goverment Neglect
by Hari on Jun 13, 2005 08:44 PM

Dear Srinivasan,
I agree with your following observation.

"It is interesting to note that the only relevant government policy in both these cases has been benign neglect."

This happened just because Government lost it's control on the India's rich. The only way Manmohan and PV could find a way out is to throw open the doors International market.

Our Governments neglect doesn't stop here. Our governments do not have capacity to control exploitative nature of multi-national corporations.

This revoultion in my unerstanding is quiet temporary and my hope is we as people gain more wisdom to transform into better citizens and work towards getting the real freedom to the 70% of 1 or 2 dollar wage earners.

People opt for emigration out of desperation not out of inspiration. India's Soverignity is in the roots of the people and depends on the uniform development geographically hope fully thro

Low Entrepreneurship in Kerala
by Jay on Jun 13, 2005 08:10 PM

Hi
The real reason for unemployment in Kerala is the low entrepreneurship in this state. Despite of availability of natural resources in this state, there are far less number of Enterprise (Factories etc) in this state. This is the reason for export of educated people from this state.
In contrast people in Gujarat, Maharashtra, North India are far more enterprising and hence people from these states are not forced to move outside for jobs.

the thoughts jotted down by writer is absolutely true that only the govt "policy" of neglect and absteneesim has lead to booming of the IT sector.I think it's should be(accidently) the case for the other booming sectors of future which needs self sustenance .Th writer aptly justifies"Ignorance is Bliss"

However, sadly the lower-class as well as the lower
middle class in Kerala are denied higher eduaction
thanks to the privatisation of professional education.

Make India Great
by Tojen on Jun 13, 2005 06:54 PM  | Hide replies

Really good article: All these happened in Kerala because farsighted people realised that the Left parties would never allow anything to grow in Kerala. Even denied a chance of a dream (look at the Smart City Project) no hope for a job in their native place. They denied the right to work in one of the most beautiful places in India. Denied to enjoy the rains, the jackfruits, the climate, the security of the family, the love and care of parents, etc. etc. because of the hesitation by the Left for change (ironically the same party is proclaiming: CHANGE THE RULE maattuvin chattangale) according to times.

Leave Kerala or perish. Many years ago there was an agitation for the alleged siphoning of money from Kerala through Cochin Stock Exchange. Now where is the agitation for the brain drain from Kerala? For the agony of parents for their daughters, sons? For the endless wait of wives for their husbands?
Thanks: Thomas T.J.

The coming revolution
by suri on Jun 13, 2005 06:44 PM  | Hide replies

You rightly point out how IT has created a 'brahmin' class out of our villages and small towns. But, IT prefers those who are English savvy. Or, you need to be know English to do IT.

Now companies working on technologies which need only subject felicity like biotech or mathematics (interesting example is abstractalgo [dot]com) make it possible for those with technical or mathematics ability to climb the ladder. Another is areas such as accupunture and yoga which are getting popular.

hey man..you are a educated and civilised young man who is knowledgable enough to read an article and post comments on it. But I fail to understand why the whole country is against one caste. You mock them, call your self equal to them and any grwoth is compared to them. what is this, inferiority complex? Iam no brahmin but i feel the only way to abolish caste system in our country is totally forget the caste you are from.

Progress by default?
by keshav on Jun 13, 2005 05:40 PM  | Hide replies

I liked the reasoning.
I have long wondered about what would the effect of an intrusive state in an Indian milieu.
Yes, we have had/have a license raj for a long time. Post 1999 and the liberilization there's still a lot of things being handled by the Govt which they have no business doing.
Public education & Healthcare is the pits.
We are so numerous that establishing controls is a distant dream. I can't imagine something the USSR happening here.
In that context, the "quiet" revolution you speak of is refreshing. Despite all the seeming drawbacks, the lack of control is what has helped us here.
Good observation & analysis.

You are correct. We are doing only the low end jobs in the IT sector. The quality of our Engineers has become very low - in Tamil Nadu, it is enough if students just mug up their 12th Standard portions and get full marks(no matter if you forget what you learnt in the previous 13 years in school(including the LKG and UKG). If any educationist points out this mistake, he is made fun of - even by his own relatives. If the IT boom goes then we will understand who stands where.

by idiot on Jun 13, 2005 04:46 PM

is changing the face of india but the other way to look at it is that the indian education system and the condition prevalent is so pathetic that indians are left to do all the coolie work like maintenance or BPOs. its just the rupee $ disparity thats causing this else all these IT czars wud be in the dumps long back!
