Flowers for brickbats?

Dear Editor,

What a mockery of democracy. Haryana police may have acted overly aggressive. But, otherwise, what do you expect the police to do when a mob stops traffic on a national highway for hours? Lecture them on rule of law and give them bouquets? All this talk of brutality on democratically agitating workers makes me sick. The various incidents of past 6 months of UPA give me a sinking feeling that we are back to 1970s unionist days, anti-industry hooliganism with tacit and direct support of left and some elements of Congress. Are we seeing a repeate of deadening of economy of West Bengal? This is a wake up call to the concerned citizens to see what will happen if Left gets an upper hand on the government.

It's a shame that we indians always ignore crime and let politicians, businessmen, police, and criminals take the control (& advantage) all the time.

Very soon these people will be looting/killing/beating/raping us in our homes and we will be only viewers.

Few MNCs will be running Indian government indirectly (or may be directly after few years) and every indian will be working as their labour(in a miserable condition) only.

Public servent:Serving blows .
by Vaibhav on Jul 28, 2005 05:16 PM
whoever's fault , its a sad incident. There were people from country denied of a living , and when they raised a voice , they were alleged of Murder and beaten with sticks. Animals that we are , at both ends. There is one human beaten like animals (Animal rights ppl , dont sue me here , just a saying) , and there is another (or group of them) beating savagely!!!

My question is : why is Indian police given a lathi...?
For the real gangsters and goons have sophesticated weapons , or atleast a good rampuri knife - and the lathi hurling cop would wet the surroundings seeing any of them. Rest of the public is victimised with that lathi.... to whom police is supposed to serve.
I hate to say part of my money that I earn hard way goes to pay to these ppl who have the guts to raise a stick on us , could have been me or my family....

here the workers might have been at fault , but still...do you need to hit them like this? was tear gas a bad idea? or water pipe could have been used? or airfire may be? were these all used? And police in general in India is no ones favourite. There is no point even discussing if they at all can be justified in their bashing of ppl - SAD and SICK!!!

Honda workers, cops clash
by J Chatterjee on Jul 26, 2005 08:56 AM

I am an Indian living in Toronto, Canada for 4 years. Came home this evening from my job to be visited by a very close Canadian friend while the Hindi Z-News was on telecast on ATN channel at 6:30 P.M. Now I think that I did a mistake by insisting that we watch the Indian news for 30 minutes and then talk. It started showing the merciless and cowardice beating of a lone policeman by people (said to be agitating Honda workers and not terrorists or criminals) while other policemen fled the scene, leaving him alone and he was trying to resists/plea in vain.

Next came the horrifying scene of flocked together and confounded empty-handed people (like good catch in a net) being beaten up by multiple policemen with sticks, enjoying sadistically. I wanted to shut off the television at this point, knowing the consequences I had to go through in the form of unanswerable questions by this Canadian knowledge worker who was being translated everything by my ever-charged wife without my approval. But he insisted we watch that "life time show", as if we rode a time-machine back to medieval times of barbaric tortures. They were all horrified (not me, since I watch a great deal of horror movies) and my wife fled the room in shame, disgust and fear. My Canadian friend noticed one thing - while the people were beating the lone cornered policeman, a few of them at least pleaded and tried to protect him, even used their sticks to shield him. May be thats why the policeman did not get killed in the spot despite the mob fury. But when the policemen were beating those trapped mass of people in the drag-net none of them (policemen) tried or pleaded to save those bare-handed people. I dont know if his observation is correct.

Shame on you the police branded sadistic people and down with their inefficient and incapable selectors and trainers! Police is to serve and protect and not to take revenge many folded.

I love my India!!!
