by sanal on Jul 13, 2005 12:14 PM

when i read this article,i am filled with compassion, love and kindness.thats the power of buddhism.it is the religion that has influenced me the most though i am not a follower.when one understands buddhism,we will learn that it is the essence of all religions.
dalai lama-the living budda could not make any progress.i am amazed by teh way nehru behaved.bringing up a resolution would not help.a person like nehru could have always suggested a better move.i sincerely hope that all efforts of lama will bear fruit one day.this man is simply great

Highest forms of such philosophy surivive if the communities around are civilized. Buddism flourished in Afghanistan and Pakistan which were the territories of greater India. When the whole population became Buddist with such philosophy of love, there was no force left to protect this civilization from the hate. When the middle eastern barbarians came, it did not take much time to eliminate them and occupy their lands. Unfortunately even preachings of love also need protection-love alone can not protect itself from evil.

Tibet and its problems
by santanu on Jul 12, 2005 08:08 PM

Our leaders never acted even when we have unquestionable stake in an issue. Without getting too emotional, lets analyze what exactly we could have done? We cannot act like Pakistan and let the Tibetans fight a proxy war. Tibetans are peaceful people and the Chinese are the ruthless. Under such circumstances, their chance of fighting is remote. In 1962, we were so badly beaten in the war with China that the proud people in this forum should look back and accept that we were not looking for any more trouble with China after 1962. This article suddenly jumps to the conclusion that India lost its credibility and leadership. This kind of article shows the standard of journalism where the author defines the world based on a single issue. In my opinion, we could have handled tibet better, like any other thing we have done since independence. My solution is, Tibetans are peaceful people with high altitude lifestyle. We can accept them as our own and make them Indian. We are a country where differing views are cherished and people can achieve their full potential. China will be under immense pressuredue to the the contrast. We can create heritage zone and promote tourism in upper himalayas.

My religion is kindness.

Your article is a lesson for all Indians.

It is sad that a an entire culture in Tibet (which so sweetly reflects our own philosophy to life) was wiped out and such a major issue was swept under the carpet on one sad day , in such a cold manner.

Unfortunately today also our govenments are surviving on the same legacy , whether it is a nice bus ride just before Kargil or whether it is Jinnah issue , even BJP also follows the same sell out game .

If we can't even see united stand from our various politians on the latest Ayodhya attack, it is still hard for us today to expect a strong revival for past issue of Tibet.

History taught same lesson many times ; but sadly we also failed those many times.

We still can take up and work to build up strengths long before the game is over for us. A strong India in future can surely pave the way for sustaining our and as well the Tibetan culture and philosophy against the really big challeges ahead.

Sri. Dalai Lama can be always oly kind till the end ..may be we all were always kind like him ..should we change now.. will he agree too?

sick \'n tired
end of a civilisation
by sick \'n tired on Jul 07, 2005 08:37 AM

Made a good reading.
Why Nehru could not grasp the significance of end of a culture and civilation? A lot has to do with Nehru's own feelings towards China, mentioned in such glowing terms in his writings, and a sentimental idealism towards historical closeness between India and China. And his prejudice in favour of leftist ideology somehow seems to have impaired the objectivity of his judgement.
As for the concern for a civilation, we are so reluctant even to discuss the threats to our own civilation, what to expect for Tibet. I get this cynical thought that the only thing that can possibly save our civilisation is our illiteracy. The onslaught of our education so devoid of any nationalistic feeling may soon leave us staring at a cultural vacuum.
We are determined not to learn what we have not learned in thousand years.

Nehru's Pusillanimity and Avlikoteshwar ' sublimity...
by Dharmen dra Goel on Jul 07, 2005 08:03 AM

Pkl. 7th July 2005,Thursday.
The pusillanimity of the great Nehru vis-a-vis Avalikoteshwar and the hapless tibetans in the face of Han's procrustean mould of maoism makes one feel sad ,for the great Admirer of Bhagwan Amitabh and
almost worshipper of Asoka whose Sarnath Lions he cose to be the official Seal of the Indian State.
It shows how aspirations for human Rights do not deliver,if not reinforced by sinews of hard capabilities to exact observance from truculent
and dictatorial Authoritarians,Nehru was no Cavour
or Bismarck who failed to imbibe the fundamental lessons of Diplomacy that all practitioners of this
ahuman Art never say but practise ie. it continuation of War by other means...D. Goel

It would help both the author of this article and Tenzin Gyatso if they can understand the ground realities. India has already paid the price for supporting Tenzin Gyatso and he should be grateful that even after that he and other refugees are allowed to stay here and are given basic facilities. China is a strong & stubborn neighbour with whom we can't keep fighting. If China decides to to wage war on India, I don't think we are in a position to stop them, let alone for the sake of some other neighbour however close it may be to us. Just to keep our country safe from our stupid neighbours we are forced to maintain such a big defence force. Protecting us from these evils itself is a big job, lte alone fighting for someone else. Even super power USA is afraid of China. Its easy to write articles, but come to earth and look at the issue from the Indian perspective. Yes as an Indian my sympathies and empathies are with Tibetans, but I don't think my country is in a position to help them more than this at the moment.

Aren't you ashamed of telling this? Our's is the country whose civilization has its root backs to centuries ahead! Our's is a place where culture born out of seed into a fully grown tree. Our's a place where highly priced brains are available. Chinese are not working for Americans or russians, but only for China. Only Indians works for Americans, Russians, Germans, British even chinese but not for India. If this situation changes, we can develop some ingenious technologies with which we can become supreme, not only in the third world, but also in the world! Understand one thing, US or Russians or Germans or whoever it is, have achieved developed status because we (Indians) are there to make them achieve. In short America minus India would be uncivilised than Africa. It is truth. Jai Hind!

I want to tell you also the same thingcheck the facts and accept the realty. We already lost one war to China. Why should I be ashamed of talking about a fact. There is no use in talking about things like USA-India = worse than Africa and such things. The fact is that we are way behind the developed countries in the infrastructure, basic facilities for all and many other things. Whether the developed countries have achieved it with the help of other nationals or on their own is something that can be debatable. But if we have such superior brains why we havent achieved all that? Because our superior brains are happy in committing suicide when their favorite actor or politician dies or happy in doing sastang pranam to their ammals & annas with out any thought about their self respect. I guess you are a Tamilian (by your name). If yes, you can understand better what I am talking about. If they show at least 10% of this commitment towards their families and society we could have achieved a lot more. I am not blaming tamilians alone. It was just an example. Most are like that. Continued in my next posting.....

How can a Nation progress when some think they are born superior just because of their caste, where there is no dignity of labor, where everyone talks about rights but no one even thinks about responsibilities? Where leaders are chosen just because they are sons/ daughters/ widows/ nephews of so and so. Do I really need to be ashamed for mentioning facts? I dont think soYes one need to be patriotic. But mere patriotism will not make us a developed nation. There is nothing wrong in mentioning/ discussing negative aspects. Hope you have enough brains & courage to accept this.
