Sad story of Tibetans
by Lakshmi on Jul 07, 2005 12:27 AM

I am sorely disappointed and saddened by India's lack of moral courage. It is true that India cannot afford to be China's enemy but the least our leaders could do is voice disapproval of the way China is handling ibet. Even Pakistan is bolder than we are - they keep harping about the "plight" and "rights" of Kashmiri people.
As for Tibetans, they have to speak up more in the international media and seminars, etc. if they want their tale of woe and injustice to be heard by other countries. I wonder how many people in other countries, even in India, know what actually happened to Tibet in the 1950s. I am still cofused about the Dalai Lama's stance. Is His Holiness' position accepted by his own people or is it only a compromise made becase they cannot stand up to teh Chinese and become a sovereign nation? Another surprising thing is the whole world talks about Taiwan being in danger from China but doesn't even whisper about Tibet.
