Overstepping
by G Srinivas on Feb 09, 2005 01:06 PM

Governer is the extension of the President of India, as the Executive of our nation. The Governer is supposed to be the most responsible person in the entire state. Activities of the speaker are deplorable in this context, but the action taken by the Governer is unacceptable. I hope the President's esteemed offices are doing something about this. The Governer should be recalled immidiately so as to discourage anyone using the Governor/Preident 's office in such a manner. I have no words left to express my frustration with this style of executive functioning.

BJP in GOA had provided the rope on which it is hanging now!
by Elly Lobo on Feb 09, 2005 01:01 PM

While not taking anybody's side in the fight for the chair in Goa, I must admit that I shed no tears for ex CM of Goa, Mr. Parrikar. In all the present drama in which he lost his chair to Mr. Rane, I am appaled at what the BJP Central Leaders like Advani who called the Goa drama as "murder of democracy". May I remind all concerned, specially my Goan brothers who might have forgotten that just a few years back, Mr. Parrikar had himself used the same tactics in dismissing his very own Govt. when some of his MLA's deserted him & were supporting Congress to topple Mr. Parrikar. The then BJP appointed Governor of Goa Mr. Jameel had done the same thing what the present Governor has done. Here at least, the Opposition has been given the opportunity to form a Govt. but Mr. Parrikar had usurped his office & the Governor to dismiss the Govt., call for fresh elections while himself being appointed as the caretaker CM. While the BJP might be crying themselves hoarse now & blaming Congress for hanging the BJP on the long rope, I believe that judicial ROPE was provided by BJP.

NANDAN PENDSE
Death of Democracy
by NANDAN PENDSE on Feb 09, 2005 12:53 PM

I am fully agree with the thoughts expressed by Mr. Shenoy. I never heard till date any Chief Minister is getting oath at nearly midnight. But our great Jameer has done this.

Please recall 1992/93 riots. Maximum riots took place in Maharashtra where congress was ruling. But Congress govt. in centre was happy to dismiss Rajsthan, MP and Delhi govts because they were ruled by BJP. If am correct Supreme Court afterone and half year of dismissal censured the central government for its wrong doing. Now this will surely happen this time also as already one PIL is filed in Supreme Court and BJP is challenging Jameer's action in Bombay High Court-Panaji Bench.

But this will continue in our world's largest democratic country as congress (whose leaders only know that for serving people power is the only solution) is in power again at centre.

What to say about our LALBHAIS(all communists). They have presently no time to comment on Goa Governor because they are busy in crying for Nepal Naresh's action in toppling the elected govt. there.

Chandrashekar
Kudos to Rediff
by Chandrashekar on Feb 09, 2005 12:44 PM

Congratulations to Mr. Shenoy and Rediff.com for publishing this article. It had almost got me worried seeing the fact that not ONE paper or website wrote against the Goa guv's to dimiss the govt in such an ad-hoc manner.
Congress has always done this and its so frustrating that even when Sonia Gandhi who made the so-called "sacrifice", continues to do this. Hope they will soon realise that the party will go to dogs if they continue doing this.

DSK Rao
President should intervene
by DSK Rao on Feb 09, 2005 12:28 PM

I think it is high time the President of India should intervene to restore people's faith in our political system. After a Governor is the President's representative in a state and is to be apolitical. I am surprised at the President's silence on the day light murder of democracy in Goa.

Talk about democracy!
by Richard Carvalho on Feb 09, 2005 11:54 AM

Mister What so ever and whom so ever has written about this topic.......awesome words have been spoken by you on the fundamentals of democracy and blah blah.....if u want a better insight of democracy in Goa go and look at the history of this place. It took an army to capture this region from Goans..The Indian Army...where were you when that was being done is true earnest.

Ridicule is what you are giving here. Does your sense of what is right and what is worng depend on a time factor for your own comfort or for the political party that you endorse.

Richard Carvalho........who?????
Answer: A Goan.

Gauzbig
What is your point ?
by Gauzbig on Feb 09, 2005 11:25 AM

That the Parrikar Government was reduced to a minority is not in doubt. Yet the motion of confidence was deemed to be passed-on what basis ?

If then the goverment asked to seek a trust vote cocks a snook at the Governor by brazenly thwarting the whole process the governor should be a mute spectator?? The governor should ignore the eviction of members from the house and their prevention from participating in proceedings that he had convened to ascertain whether the Chief minister enjoyed majority support? That the Parrikar government had lost support of the majority was self evident. That the Government was buying time and support was also self evident.... AND THE GOVERNOR WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THIS !?!

Having said this what seems to be Shenoy's case is that the Governor deputed Rane to be his spokesman. And on what authority did Shenoy decide this ? Was he privy to the deputation of Rane by the governor? And what if Rane was speaking to the press as the leader of the combination that had the majority support in the house and not as the Governor's spokesman? Is he preempted from briefing the media on his version of discussions with the governor? Give me a break Shenoy!!
