I read with interest your article on your Iran visit. Having lived there for a few months at a stretch and being in constant touch with these people for many no. of years, I look with anticipation to your next article on this country.
It was really a good piece of article. Iran has always been a mystery to an average indian. More such travel-Memoirs will be interesting reading experinece.
I guess, in many ways than one, Indo-Iranian relations go back into time. The time when the great dynasties ruled over the Persepolis whose influences of gastronomy, architecture,lingua,customs, culture, also a religion (read Zoarastrianism) have found a place in the hearts of Indians.
Today, because of certain geopolitical situations, it is on the brink of being named as a terror state. Iran, in many ways than one, has tried to move ahead into times, though at the same time, kept its roots firmly into its culture and heritage. The Mossad or the secret service is one such fine shining example of excellence. The foiled hijack attempt about a decade ago proves the mettle of the service.
Also, Iran, today is emerging as a fast growing IT land, with many a broadcast software system coming from this land, the times have truly changed.
Probably, one blemish on the otherwise flawless visage is the stubbornness to move out of the past shackles of fundamentalism into modernism. I dare not say that the country leave behind all its traditions, no, they are too valuable to desert, but some accomodation for the other civilisations and countries into their lands is the need of hour.
