Mumbai Spirit?
by Harikumar Varma on Aug 02, 2005 11:52 PM

As a 'pravasi' today, my connections with my motherland is much stronger than when I actually lived there. Any event in my country, be it a stock market surge or a rail mishap, I keenly follow them all, though mostly none of these events have anything to do with me or any of whom I know, personally. It's a kind of 'desi-ness' which drives me to be upadte with the latest events in my country.

I lived in Mumbai for about 4 years. While living there, I used to tell my friends elsewhere that one should spend at least 1 or 2 years of his life in Mumbai to learn some of the simplest lessons of management in life: like time, prioritising, bargaining and budgeting. A good life is a tough bargain, and no place other than Mumbai to teach you this better.

However, Mumbai is losing its charm very fast. The much acclaimed entreprenuerial spirit and work ethic that used to be the hallmark of people in Mumbai are very rare to see these days. Despite all its pace and momentum, the city had a compassionate 'human' face, which also is vanishing rapidly. It took only a cloudburst to tell how low the city's spirit is now. Would it wait for a bigger calamity to charge up the real 'Mumbai spirit?'

monsoon

Every one has been badly bruised by the natural calamity and most of the peoples are still facing some of the most grave situations one can ever dream of.
I stay in titwala which is some 15kms from kalyan and for the last 7 days there is no electricity no drinking water no food and most of the residents which hardly saved their lives are still living on the edge and if the govt. still keeps concentrating on the petty issues of electricity in the cities then after 2 days all peoples wont survive the toll of hunger and water, and this is not only for the village of titwala but for all other adjoining villages which are being neglected by the administration purposely, atleast the administration can arrage for some drinking water tankers which might ease the burden of drinking the dirty water for the last 7 days.
And if the Govt. can't help then God saves us all.

26TH JULY and Mumbai
by Er ShivDev Singh on Aug 02, 2005 08:32 PM

Hello my dears,
I am neither a Maharashtrian nor a Mumbaite but in the past I had been to Mumbai manytimes and all praise for that city which has innumerable oppurtunities to all unknown and insignificant.Such a devasting loss to its residents is really shocking, thought of that day is enough to give me shivers.I pray to God to give them enough courage to come out of that shock well.I think 26th July is a bad day,on the same day on my way back from Mumbai my briefcase with shares and cash were stolen. On that day I lost almost 20 lakh. This is just one example of bad day, many unwanted sad things happen on this day.Infact I wish to eliminate 26th July(twenty sixth july)from my life,I wish when I sjeep on 25th july the next morning should be 27th July.Let it Let us all wish for the well being of all suffereres and pray to God to accord peace to all those who lost their lives on that fateful day.
