Indiscriminate development and bad planning
by Ketan Dand on Aug 02, 2005 04:16 PM

What happened on 26/7 and then on 1/8 will be repeated unless the city is planned better. Slums have to be demolished, storm water drains must empty not in the sea but in some lake out of the city to save water for the summer months, road levels must be replanned and most importantly mangroves must be conserved so that they provide a natural drainage system. All this requires experts and we currently do not have even mildly competent people either in the state government nor in the BMC, just corrupt fools. My appeal to Mumbaikars to not purchase flats in complexes built after cutting off mangroves.
