9/11 & Beslan avoidance
by Abhijeet on Oct 11, 2004 02:20 AM

I read the views about tackling islamic terrorism in the 3 ways and I think an outright opposition using force needs to be supplemented using sensible use of information distribution. I read this on BBC : "The editor of one of Russia's biggest newspapers, Izvestia, said he was forced to resign on Monday because the paper's coverage (of Beslan Incident) was considered too emotional". This reminds me of how the India media covers incidents like Godhra, Akshardham, Kashmir separatist violence etc. and keep the government and law enforcing agencies under a critical eye. When the government grants a media license, the news agencies inturn must be responsibile to uphold local & national interests. And failing to adhere should be tried in a court of law under acts such as "POTA". It is strange to notice that for Indian media, an american 9/11 commands more coverage than a 12/13 (Attack on Indian Parliament) or a Kargil war anniversary or a Godhra riot anniversary or for that matter the 93 Mumbai bomb blasts anniversary. I read Rajiv's comment that "people exhibit emotion because they are expected to do so" in a western context. The western media has successfully transformed local agencies

Freedom of expression(defamation)??
by Sameer on Oct 03, 2004 12:45 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Readers,
"Peace" in Islam means tolerance, justice and tranquility among human beings, not the (mis)derived definition by Rajeev. To correct him and to make every reader aware, I would like to state that "Dar-ul Islam" means the abode for peace, Because the word "Islam" itself, literally means-peace in Arabic. Dar-ul Islam does not refer to the "faith" Islam.
You see, how a fact can be presented in a different way to achieve cheap objectives, as done by Rajeev.
Similarly, his interpretation of "Innocent" is totally conjoured up! Islam considers each and every child Innocent, whether chechen or Russian. It is worth reminding here that for Rajeev and Russians, the 42 THOUSAND schoolgoing Chechen children who lost their lives for the past 10 years are not"Innocent". Nobody even says or write about them, can I ask WHY?? Now tell me whose definition of "Innocent" is flawed? Islam's or Rajeev's?Definitely, people who kill innocent men , women and children CAN NEVER BE MUSLIMS!!!Some of our readers have described the mis-doers of Beslan as pi**, I second them with the top of my voice. But I want them to second me too, when I call the killers of infants and unborn children bigger pi**

Freedom of expression, Definitely not defamation !!
by Ryan on Oct 03, 2004 11:52 PM
Well in that case ,what do u have to say for Kashmir....not to talk of Israel and also 9/11. Maybe you might want 2 consider Moplah or the partition of India. We are not playing blame games here...just trying to put the pieces together. You'll have to accept critcism without viewing it as an outright attack on one's faith. I dont know what do u mean by "cheap objectives". 42 thousand school children losing their lives is peanuts compared to the losses suffered by India at the hands of Islamic terrorists in the past 15 years. Does that mean we start infiltrating Pakistan and slaughtering children ? Tit for Tat is it ? If Beslan is justified, Gujrat riots are doubly justified....but no sane person would ever justify either of them. Its high time you got out of your inferiority complex and start viewing the situation objectively.

Dear Ryan,
I never said Beslan was justified! You got it all wrong.I am pondering what our sufferings has to do with the killings of 42 thousand chechen children???
We have suffered and we are suffering still by the hands of Terrorists aided by a country for political and separatist motives, NOT because of Religion! Please correct yourself. When a bomb explodes, it does not selectively kill Hindus!!!As a matter of fact, it is the Muslims who are suffering and dying in Kashmir.
This is what I mean by "Cheap objectives", belittling and defaming a Faith and community as a whole, out of "deliberate ignorance", which arises because of "weak kingdom within", as pointed out by one of the readers.
Good Luck,Ryan!

Rajeev's quest to decipher islam
by indian on Oct 02, 2004 09:53 PM  | Hide replies

The author wonders why muslim terrorists abduct and kill people despite their religion forbidding them to do so...well hello they wouldnt be called terrorists otherwise would they? Irrationality and intolerance is the bedrock of terrorism and fundamentalism.

fundamentalists in every religion - whether they be muslims, christians or hindu's are potential terrorists. So rajeev please condemn all forms of terrorism - pakistani islamic terrorists, christian terrorists in sudan and well yes tamil hindu terrorists in sri lanka and dont take sides as blatantly as you do..
Your fundamentalism originates from preconcieved notions which have now transformed into a bias so strong that it nullifies your IIT and Stanford B-School education. What a sad waste of talent..

I dont think you quite understood Rajeev's point here:

"The author wonders why muslim terrorists abduct and kill people despite their religion forbidding them to do so.."

The point here is that these terrorists are under the impression that they are fulfilling their religious duty, and will find a place in heaven. They openly proclaim that the Quran gives them the right to rid the world of all the "Kafirs". If this is a "Misinterpretation", then who the hell is going to tell them the "Real Interpretation". So somewhere along the line, there is some sort of a doctrinal failure which needs to be traced, otherwise more and more people (even those educated in IITs or Stanford) will keep joining the Jihadi bandwagon and the problem of terrorism shall never end. Killing the terrorists is definitely not a permanent solution. There will always be more Osamas and Saddams crawling out of the terrorist factory. What needs to be shut down is this factory.
