I'd like to contact Mr. Kailash Narendran. He is being written up in your brain drain article as an inventor of electromechanical device for people with spinal cord injury. I am a paraplegic and I am inrerested in knowing what kind of device it is and what it does. I'd greatly appreciate if you would send me the contact number or address or E-mail of Mr. Kailas Narendran. Thank you.

Brain Drain

Hi,
I guess much has been said and heard about this "brain drain" problem going on in india for ages. But let me share my feelings regarding this. Brain drain is only a boon for India. Not bane. How many Universities in India can match the standards of Havard, Stanford, Yale, MIT, etc? Probably just IIT and nothing else. I am from RIT. But within just one year of studies in RIT, I guess much much more than my friends who are studying in IITs, BITs, NITs, etc. So how can you compare the Indian universities to American Universities? Its like comparing heaven and hell.
First make the primary and secondary education in India strong. There is a huge gap regarding the extra-curricular activities and practical knowledge of the field among the students in India and US. I admit Indian students are smarter and hard working. But I also have to say that Universities in USA DO provide more and better facilities for research work, projects, and practical approach to work than any Indian university.
The educational system in USA especialy after grade 12th, is much more stronger, and tougher than the educational system in India. If you want to gain knowledge, USA is the right place.

Brain Drain

I am in US to do my MBA after working 12 years in India.I worked for MNCs and Indian firms before deciding to try my luck here.

All these talk of reverse brain drain all good on paper. You can have a look at the number of people standing outside US embassies to understand the reality. The reality is, for every 100 leaving India not even one is returning. Even if one returns, it is more because of other reasons than love for India.

The Indians and other asians will continue to try their luck in US as long as IUSD = Rs.46.5.

One likes it or not, the average white american is looking at asian with pity and contempt. They say, all asians except probably Japanes are trying to get in to our country.

We, the Indians, need to look far beyond Cricket, Religion and Pakistan to raise the living standards of ordinary Indians.

SO PL DONT WASTE TIME

No need to feel better yet. None of these guys who have gone abroad are talking of coming back, and their reactions smack of just smug plattitudes.

Their higher education in India, which earned them entry abroad was subsidised by the Govt of India, inter-alia, the people of India. Something they will like to be not reminded of if asked to repay a debt to the country etc.

Anyway, the article was just a space filler.

The headlines on the main page say " Want to study in US? Think again. The subject inside the article looks somewhat unrelated.
A student in USA.

braindrain.,,, and awards..
by Narasimhan G Iyengar on Nov 28, 2004 09:41 PM

Assuming that your news headlines ' Want to study in the US ? think again' links to this article,

What braindrain are we talking about in this borderless intellectual world enveloped by the Internet?

People come primarily in pusuit of material wealth to greener pastures from time immmemorial, and the frontal cover for that purpose depends on the individual's talent, skills and capabilities. There could be a few exceptions to this theory however.

Having said that, no one forced a brain drain, the individuals wanted it and the nation(s) allowed it. Would it have been possible for all these intellectuals to be what they are today without the so called 'brain drain'

Let us learn to be practical and remain appreciative of all opportunities that have come in our way and be thankful to the physical spaces on either side of the so called 'brain drain'.

In this intellectual space, let us get together and work for causes that benefit all, in the future 'borderless world'.

Now focussing on the headlines, ask the parents why they driil the idea of US education into their children's mind right at the +2 level.

May be it is a good subject for an opinion poll
