UMA fiasco ?
by Vinod Tuli on Nov 11, 2004 09:01 PM

Dear Editor
The entire episode must be viewed as "Between the Lines" as many things are still hypothetical and media is unnecessarily blowing the facts out of proportions. There are still many questions unanswered by the concerned leaders. Her sacrifice of all worldly life comforts and pure dedication to Sangh Parivar must be judged judiciously. I had once seen her - a vibrant new leader going on a mission like journey for her visit contest as MP from Khajuraho more than a decade back at Jhansi at family friend's house in early 1990s. It was indeed a mission and not party affiliation of any type. Vinod Tuli

Party with a difference
by Prasun Maitra on Nov 11, 2004 08:59 PM

It really proved that BJP is a Party With a Difference. In fact the party does not know what for they are. This is the basic cause that starting as a party with a difference is bound to be end as a party with differences.- Prasun.

uma's suspension

The BJP has shown its true colours (its caste based politics). Not only Uma but Advani too walked into a trap. I include Advani because he is not part of the upper caste politics dominated by the brahmins. This caucus could not stand Uma Bharati and it was joined by the stupid and less cunning other forward castes in the BJP. The bane of the country is such casteism; I pity Advani as I feel sorry for Uma. These people crow about anti-conversion and not notoriously narrow-minded and selfish. I would be a hypocrite if I do not add that there are unbiased and rational persons among them. Being privileged and brought with a superior social status the just-minded among them rebelled against the selfish majority and fought for the rights and against the injustices meted out to the suppressed millions comprising Indians. When a different faith offered such masses dignity, education, a way to seek succour from God, and also respect (and all these things were deprived to them by the Hindu religion or by its practitioners and the suppressed were reduced to being subhumans making them believe that it was God and not they who ordained them for that kind of life) how dare they oppose this move?

Advani contradicted himself, should be disciplined.
by Vikrant Dhoke on Nov 11, 2004 10:57 AM

Be fair Mr. Advani, you are playing with FIRE !!
You will want to be on the right side with FIRE and use it to your advantage.

Say publically "Come back home Uma, Everything is forgiven and forgotten". The quicker you do this, the better for BJP parivar.

* --------- *

When advani says, in-party fights should not be taken to media and names Uma Bharti on Camera, what is he doing ? He is also inviting media for a in-party showdown. Has he not acted in contradiction to his own statement ? Should be not be disciplined ?

No self respecting person can take charges lying down. Giving media to cover only one side of the story is just too much.
this is a word from a brahmin - not a dalit.

Uma Bharathi
by Jimmy on Nov 11, 2004 10:18 AM

The whole incident was stage managed by the BJP. How else would they pursue their new found agenda of hardline Hindutva? They needed someone to take up their pet agendas and who else can be better qualified than Uma Bharati! Can't we see similarities between Mamta Banerjee and Sharad Pawar here? Both were expelled frolm their parent parties, which resulted in them forming their own parties, which today is stronger than the parent organisation in their respective states. So the whole BJP plan is very clear here - Throw out Uma Bharati on disciplinary grounds.(What wrong did she do, to be thrown out of the party, which presently needs her desparately?); show the world that they, the BJP, was a disciplined secular party. This is how the plot will unfold in the next few days. Uma will now form her own party with the backing of the RSS and the VHP and they together will pursue the hardline Hindu agenda (Ram Temple, Kashi, Mathura and minorities), which the BJP was finding difficult to pursue while being part of the NDA. The conclusion is evident here. Just wait and watch as things unfold in the next few days. Great move Mr.Advani.No wonder they were so desperate to make you President!
