not really true
by Pradeep Samal on May 18, 2005 11:36 AM

Though its a good write up, there are certain flaws.
First of all, as the author believes, the theory of Aryan invasion is the root cause of indian attraction towards white skin is flawed.
50% of Indian population is illiterate and out of the remaining 50%, not even 5% are aware of the Aryan invasion theory.
So, this aryan invasion theory can not be the root cause.
Yes, white skin may be one of the reason for her popularity among the rural Indian population.
And I think colour white has been associated with beauty since ages, and people getting attracted towards beautyful people is quite natural, there is nothing extraordinarily wrong with that.

And If Sonia Gandhi is a good human being, what is the problem in voting her to power?

I would any day prefer a corrupt and insensitive Indian leader to a sincere and sensible foreign lady.
after all we are not talking about a land mass, it's the people living in the country, and if there are millions, who are hungry and malnourished, who cares for indegenous or foreign.

50% of Indian population must be ignorant about the existence of another country named Italy!!! and they r not bothered who rules, its the daily bread th

White Woman and India

The article is very apt but does india realise its true identity. As a writer in post colonialism i share and agree with the writer.

The presentday indian experience consists of three concentric circles- the native Hindu Experience, the experience of islam and the experience of imperialis.

The greatest tragedy that befells post colonial thinking is that most indians think that the british colonial rule was beneficial to them. In one context it is true, it liberated indians from the islamic rule and for this reason most indians are eternally grateful.

what theydonot realise is how the colonial rulers subjugated indians, ruled then in the much reviled race theory of the master and subject races. The other thing they donot realise is that how the British destroyed the manufacturing prowess of India.

Around the 1750, indians manufacturing economy was the largest and strongest economy. today, india has just 1% of the global trade.

Post colonial india must look at colonialism not as a concept of Mission Civilatsice or moderrning and educating the subject races but as an economic subjation that eve after 57 years of independence, most india's still live in abject povert

Nice article.Very good analysis. The article was like brown skin poin of view in turn of white skin. Its true that so many people have inferiority complex on white skin. But i dont like the author's
comment on Sonia gandhi and Mother Teresa. It may be his point of view. whatever b the nationality,India will treat the foreginers as indian citizens. So the comment which author made on Terasa n Sonia gandhi is not good though his view was good
