We are more interested in televised cricket than the
deaths of jawans that continue to occur in Kashmir, practically daily, or in ordinary jawans, period, upon whom India does rely. To hell with cricket
- or for that matter Bollywood - the
whole world's waiting for middle-class Indians, or to buy their ordinary soldiers a cup of tea, as they
encounter them in public.

I think back over history: the Coliseums, bullfights, burning of witches, the inquisitions and of course, crucifixions, distract the masses and amuse them...nice "day in the park" and friendship doesnt come to mind.

You are right Archana, but its not all that easy...

I agree with what you have tried to express in your article, but more often than not, warmth ends up to be a temporary phase like hostilities. The only difference is that hostilities stretch longer and they cause pain. While no sane person on either side wants to think of the 'Bomb', its really not the common people who are involved in whatever problems face India and Pakistan. Its the top brass of both countries that actually control the relations between the two sides. Once cricket comes and goes, its all going to be business as usual for them. None of us want it to happen, but such camaraderie and eventual return to hostilities have become almost passe. Things blur with time and I am afraid its not going to be very different this time. Nevertheless, we all would welcome any positive changes in the political and militaristic ground situation between the two sides. While we need to be optimistic, we need to keep our feet planted firmly on the ground. So, lets not get carried away because the people who matter on both sides are not getting carried away either.

hi
i really don't know where to start from.one country i have always wanted to visit is pakistan. somehow it has not materialised so far.the desire has increased manyfold after reading acconts of people whoe are enjoying the warmth and stupendous hospitality there.
i have only one thing to say and that is,it will be very very sad if the politicians spoil the show again.people are beautiful,in pakistan and india. may i take this opportunity to thank your country and your people for the great understanding and warmth showered on us during the current indo pak series.i mentioned to my wife yesterday, after india won the match, that india won the match but pakistan won many hearts here in india. i am saying this on my behalf as well as a lot of indians.thanks.Khuda Hafiz.
