Good job
by Aman on Mar 17, 2004 08:57 AM

Hi,
I appreciate your job coz it stimulates our mind to think why are not there where we should. Why still we look at some western institution to approve over own traditions?

Good article..

So very true. I knew very less about India and culture and past, growing up in India. Thanks to our education system. Reading and learning Greek and other western mythologies were given more importance and Indian classics. ..Even now in India, speaking in English is considered more civilised and Haute Coutre than any other native tongue.

What we need now?
by akash on Mar 16, 2004 06:09 PM

All of India needs to
#1group and regroup its old methodologies and books etc.
#2 Teaching and Learning in mother toungue to every indian, with a open attitude where in one masters their mother toungue, learns atleast a couple of other indian languages and atleast one foreign language.
#3 Predominance of english and foreign influence should be removed or minimized.
#4 Koreans or japanese learn and do things of global standards in their language and not english or french.
#5 We all need to study and understand our books, literature scriptures and try to gain maximum from them, rather than trying to read or reread harry potter's books.
#6 We all need to develop rational thinking and open attitude as in the west.
#7 We all need to develop values of freedom, equality and respecting the other individual as in the west.

While we take what is thrust upon us by the west we poorly face in taking the good from them.

Only when we are open and discussing can we progress.

TRUTH IS GOD - SATYAMEVA JAYATHE.

globalisation and knowledge industry
by surajit som on Mar 16, 2004 05:52 PM

there are several interesting points.though unequal, it is still a give- and -take phenomenon. where we would have been without the western, mainly american, markets and concepts? to that extent we are benefitting from american technology and culture.however the situation is bound to change as we quickly assimilate as were done by japan and others.it is interesting that europe's contribution is much less.because they are not as bold, innovative and open as the usa.
as regards centralisation,it is not only non-stop processing of massive information that is important but its application is even more important.free market and ultimately a free superstructure ensures application and continuous corrections-big or small(like nature).a centralised system, controlled by a handful individuals, cannot do either and hence it is condemned to collapse.the bigger the system ,more difficult the task and faster the collapse. it is interesting to note that while soviet union has collapsed ,cuba ,North Korea etc are still carrying on!

Adheet Gogate
Well said...
by Adheet Gogate on Mar 16, 2004 04:31 PM

How interesting it is to compare the vibrancy in sectors that have been liberalised (telecom, power, banks) with the sloth and lassitude in those that have not (Civil aviation, education).

Fresh thinking and a little daring is required for India to become, again, a centre of learning.

Dear Kak,
I am a journalist with Sahara Time.
Kudos to you for penning such a insight-ful piece on globalisation and knowledge industry.
In short, you have succeeded in playing to the masses' concern.
Keep it up, gentleman. We need such incisive surgical analysis more often in nowadays India.
Could you please stay in touch through mail.
Thanking you.

Though provoking
by Radhakrishnan Pillai on Mar 16, 2004 02:10 PM

This article was really thought provoking.

I would like to add something more on these lines on the 'Knowledge Industry'.

Even in the corporate world and Management Principles India can set a new trend a new standard - 'Spiritual Management' & 'Spiritual leadership'. India as a country has always operated on the basis of Sprituality and it is our strength.

India will always grow in the 'Knowledge world' and 'knowledge industry' after all 'Bharat' means the one who 'revels in Knowledge'...
