Right Said Fred....

Well, I'd only say that had you focussed on the GD instead of the terse instructions of the instructors, "types" of candidates - (engineer types, CA types, IT experience types, phew !!!), the same case study being given everywhere and stuff, probably you'd have qualified.

And yes, probably you are right, these creme-de-la-creme of Indian educational institutions are absolutely no-gooders. I think it should be mandated that any person who has worked for four years in the US (Ohhh my God, US !!!) should be given straight wild card entries into any institution in India.

And yes, I guess the three people who gave you terse instructions were having teaching experience in excess of your age plus the four years that you have spent in the US, and in those "hallowed" Universities in that hallowed country, yes, the US.

And we'd do good to realise that all that they do here in the US is not all carved in gold and all thats there in India is not all cow-dung and elephants and snake charmers.

Point

You got a good point bud. That's what is happening in the GD's today. I think the institutes should appoint 2 or 3 people from the industry (relavent to the topic) to monitor the progress of the discussion and to understand, who's actually doing well and who's beating around the bush.

Take Care,
Shanker.

Very correct
by Ranjeet on Jun 11, 2004 10:47 AM

So very true.
After staying in USA for several years, I am also working in the corporate setting and in my opinion Indian corporate world is not mature for many things. I find the fundamental principles of work ethics are missing at most of the places, vision written on the piece of paper very clearly intersects the style of work/operation. This has a lot to do with our education/training at various levels. Somehow most of our institute do not develop the culture of objectivity and respect for individual's point of view. Debate, discussion and disagreement are considered to be disrespect.

Hope we do get young guys trained beyond the subject matter, which is attitude. Major task and challenge ??

Agree

I tend to agree with the author, Its no less than a brawl in the GD's for the top Insti's, Ditto in all other GD's for jobs or Campus Interviews. Most have obviously been misguided, that the more vocal, authoritative and confident sounding would be the better. But, What matters would be the thought process, and how you can piece together various viewpoints and to be able to reach a logical conclusion. I had been to the IIMA GD/Interview 8 years back. Just spoke when I got an opportunity, made my point, and opinion on what others spoke. I got through, Its another matter that I did not join the course.

Nice article.
I'm totally agree with the way you thrashed their GD procedure. Believe me, i just didn't feel like speaking a single word when i participated in one such GD held by IIPM, Pune.
It was like a fish baazar.
Wake up guys, wake up. If you don't have the capability to generate ideas, adopt them from abroad.
But change.

Silly Questions
by nikhil on Jun 11, 2004 10:01 AM

It was a shame when my younger brother was recently asked in his CET personal interview questions like Name any 5 mountains apart from himalayas and they name other 2 famous one.
Name any 5 rivers apart from (the panel named 3 famous rivers)
Which is the national animal of India
Which is the national bird of India.

I do not know what the Panel was trying to judge from my brother, but it shows the way CET is being conducted and also shows the way the Interviewers Panel are Selected.
