by Santosh on Jul 16, 2004 12:51 PM

I can't understand why media is giving so much importance to this. rather I would say Good By Gladys Staines! Don't come again to convert Hindus and set an example to the other missionaries.

One more angel is leaving
by Ali on Jul 16, 2004 08:28 AM

Ms Staines is second generation of social workers after Mother Tressa. Her departure is another loss to the secular India. She was at the receiving end of utter pain suffering while at her stay in India. She and her daughter hit with the worst disater in a family happen. Her sacrifice is at the same level or may be higher like what Ms Gandhi did for the secular India.
I an all peace loving people in India will pray for all her future endurance and if she willing for her early return to India. India needs more and more people like Ms. Gladies for her survival.

With Tears I won't forget you.

Personally speaking I feel very sad as Gladys Staine is leaving India.
I had seen some peoples commented, as they dont bother.
Yes Indians doesnt bother about the fellow Indian who is in need of help,
They are not daring enough to mingle with lepers. If these things are done by foreigner
They are against it.

Guys just think for a moment and speak with your inner voice of your heart any body in this message board thought of doing service to leper people what staines family did.
Up to my knowledge everybody like to migrate to western countries. But those families migrated from west to east

Gladys continued the service after the tragic death of her Husband and children.

For so many centuries Indian's are known to be well cultured and people of giving good hospitality.
Guys now it's the time we have to show how much we respect her family.

Gladys you may leave India but things happened to you and the services you had done for my country will be remembered Generation after Generation

My Hats off salute for your service and my tearful apologies for the things Happened to you from my fellow Indian brother.

We Indians will never forget you.q

with Tears

Real mission of Ms Gladys . . .
by John on Jul 16, 2004 02:22 PM
Amen.
One question - what is the real mission of these people. Convertion or social service. If its convertion (I understand this family was preaching the Gospal - Ms Stains visited US recently on behalf of certain churches) I cannot agree with them. If it was 100% social service, may be her husband and sons never brutally murdered.
I know many of these kind of missionaries they never have any respect for Hinduism. Some even provocate them through their preaching. Is it right ?
The concept of mission and convertion very aggressively practiced by these kind of missionaries are sometimes condemnable. They used crooked means to convert into Christianity. These kind of ruthless convertion already happend to be a problem in the Eastern part of India.
As fellow human being I felt sorry for the tragedy happend in her life.
Agressi media is always chasing behind these kind of stories. They never shows much interest to similar work doing by fellow Indians. I am wondering how many of us know about the humanitarian work of Baba Amte . . . ?

staines leaving india - so what?
by swarna on Jul 15, 2004 09:14 PM

Several tens of thousands of crores of rupees flowed into India since independence solely for the purpose of converting Hindus to Christians. Lakhs of Hindus were converted in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh including Guntur and Prakasam districts in an highly organised manner.

Whats the big deal!!
by Prasad on Jul 15, 2004 03:46 PM

I really wonder why media is making it such a big story, if she is
leaving, fine!! Whats the big deal about it, in many countries
there are so many people of foreign origin so whats the big deal
if she leaves. Alright, agreed that she was doing some social
work, so there are truck loads in africa and other countries, do
they make so much fuss about them. Agreed on another issue
that her husband was killed, so many of such workers have
already been in troubled region of the world, do they make
hype?? Many of these (certainly not all) 'social workers' portray
another picture outside, does media takes that into account?
So why so much of fuss, just because she builds some hospital?
It is novel and noble thing but don't think there should be so
much of fuss. As they say, shit happens, unfortunately her family
was the victim.

Request from a true indian
by kulmohan on Jul 15, 2004 02:43 PM

With tears in my eyes I write to say Sorry, to Glady Staines who was denied justice in india.

A foreigner who sacrifices the comforts of modern to live in a village of orissa for the sake of charity and he is burnt alive with two of his two young children. The assailiants loom large at ease for long and when the world media boils the issue, only then are the assailiants caught by the police . The whole picture is not just one that makes you happy.

To Glady staines and others I would like to say-
Life is not about self-denial- do not deny yourselves the comforts of a posh home in Australia for which you were destined.
Life is also not about greatness - do not expect people to express gratitute and look thankfully unto yourself for all the charity you do.
Life is pragmatic- go back and take care of your daughter's education
Please come back again for a revisit sometimes in the future if you would like to.
For now all I can say to you as a true Indian is the word 'SORRY' with tears in my eyes.

Foolish coverage
by tejas on Jul 15, 2004 12:19 PM  | Hide replies

Why are you so obssessed with name 'STAINES', because
her husband was murdered. You feel you can sensationa- lise the issue everytime you bring in that name.Thnx god you don't print that Glady staine's sneezed & coughed today, but no guarantee either, that you wont.I'am amazed at irony of the events. You published many news items for Dhananjoy & Ishrat both of whom were rightly convicted & pronounced, but neither you nor that idiotic NHRC (non hindu rights commission! as I like to put it) came forward to understand Dara singh's case,Why?because he had murdered a fair skinned person or your obssession to lick foreigners' boots hasn't faded yet.You are absolutely sick, meek &
weak instrument(called Media) which can neither protect & uphold, nor nurture the Democratic values & unbiased Journalism.Stopacting as one!!!Bunch of timid & impotent untruthful reporters.
