I was born proud to be an Indian. Grew up the Indian way, came abroad on a job, lived with foreigners cause I wanted to make my own personal opinion about them as well as get personal opinions, about what they think about our country and then Us (Indians).
I played a very non-judgemental approach. First they talked about the culture and the history and the food and the movies, the art, the architecture, the miss worlds and the miss universes a few days later they spoke about gruesome stories of people from my/our motherland, their experience in India as well as with Indians abroad.
Wake up people please do not be so hasty in letting your emotions run high.
There is a problem and we need to solve it.
Do we really need to be so conservative in our lives? In a globally run economy of todays world presenting ones self is of utmost importance. A field we need to work on.
And as for wild is that our topic for discussion. Dont we have any thing more progressive to talk about? Lets talk about the way women are treated, the governments fault, illiteracy, caste; 50 years of independence for what, a society that is broken up completely for un- progressive reasons? Have we progressed yeas we have but if we need to actually become good citizens in the world we need to improve our basic outlook. (My perception)
Think Bout it. If you do feel repulsive reading this comment I have to say I could only try to make a point that needs jotting down.
I am very disappointed to let the rediff know that this is the worst article I have ever read on rediff. I am not sure what the writer wanted to let the readers know about some Indian who is writing some stuff on India being interviewed about her views on desi Americans & indian citizens.Any fool in India would know that desi Americans are different to adapt to lifestyle of countries they are in & most of the time these people have identity crisis which they will be battling all thier lives. I request rediff to stop giving importance to Tom, Dick & Harry present all over the world & to concentrate on geniuses present in our wonderful country which would encourage our local population rather than asking desi view on us, who are in no way special. Kind Regards Dr.Pradeep.R

C'mon people... Give the poor lady a chance. Let us see how the book fares. If she likes Catcher in the Rye and To Kill a Mocking Bird, and Harry Potter to boot, I am with her ;)
By the way, Manoranjan, the reason why the "foren" guys 'n gals may not have given you any consideration during your many trips to "overseas countries", is probably because of your "i am indian, but, would have liked to be foren, but for my language, but since i can't be foren, i will bash them foren people" attitude. Be yourself, pal, and be confident! Nobody "hates" you! Prejudices are real. You either cultivate yourself to better your own language skills, or stop trying. You can't run away from prejudices. Even you and I have them. Just take a look at all the prejudices you yourself have about "them" and the author, even as we know precious little about what is to come :) So, like Eric Clapton sang, "'fore you accuse me, take a look 't yourself" :) Thank you very much for your co-operation. Wishing all the very best to all the people out there ;)
