Dear rediff, I personally feel that India has more in common with Israel that any terrorist organisation that sponsors worldwide terror. If we are to take a principled stand that befits a truly great democracy like ours with humanetarian considerations being the sole criteria we have to think of the nation as a whole and not worry about offending the sentiments of any communitiy irrespective of the percentage of the electorate they constitute . Every rationale thinker in India would certainly advocate a pro Israel policy. For all one knows ,they would have helped us to organise an Entebbe style rescue operation in Kandahar. The time is ripe for striving for an Indo-Israeli tie up which does not stop having reached Golan heights but aspires to reach Himalayan peaks. Shalom and Welcome fellows. U.Venkatesh
It is a fact that no person has EVER been persecuted in India for his religious beliefs. That is the reason why practically every religion in the world is present in this country - think Zoarastrians, think Bahai's, think Jews, think various branches of Christianity, think Muslims. There have been aberrations from time to time, that's more to do with basic human nature rather than religion. The majority of Indians need to be complimented for their religious tolerance.
India's support to Palestine has no rationale. Palestine is a terrorist hotbed. India's support to Palestine should be on the condition that they eschew terrorism and start peaceful negotiations with Israel. Our current policy is dictated by the larger presence of Muslims than Jews in India.
