i should appreciate the auroville tsunami rehabilitation organisers for taking immediate necessary steps to help the tsunami victims of pondicherry. i am from pondicherry and iam staying in mumbai.when i heard this news i was shattered and i was confused how to help the people.i got an information how to extend my help to the pondicherry tsunami victims. i will do the necessary help through auroville tsunami rehabilitation.
we feel deep concern for our fellow beings who have suffered a lot due to tsunami and we would also like to financially and other wise too be of some aid to them. but we want the money to reach the affected ppl and not be misutilised .Is there any way by which we could be assured of the correct usage of the same ? How can we monitor the same?
As I watch the disaster unfold, I think of the long term consequences, which we should start thinking of, planning and possibly executing in the weeks ahead. A few thoughts spring to mind:
(a) Early warning systems for not just Tsunamis but also floods, hurricanes and of course earthquakes. Customize construction in areas to meet specific needs, eg. flooding proof type construction in coastal areas and earthquake proof construction in fault areas (eg Gujarat)
(b) Long term medical care for those injured or affected by the catastrophe.
(c) Special Disaster management teams that can kick into action immediately by setting up medical tents, having medical equipment/medicines and having designated areas for receiving aid as they come in.
(d) Designated relief areas in every state so when a disaster occurs, all preparation, staging and treatment can be done from those areas. I have sent my relief donations to charities but always feel helpless when I cannot see its impact. Knowing where its going helps.
(e) Have employers give "volunteer days off" to employees willing to take part in this noble effort.
(f) Continuous training to ensure volunteers and staff are always kept updated
after watching on tv and reading on internet,it seems that ,indian government is very arrogant,to take foreign help.time is a muscle here.many people died and will die if we dont help them in time.india has not asked un help.also doctors without borders are not allowed to help on andaman island.i heard government official answering to them that "he will let them know tomorrow" here people from other countries are willing to help but indian government officials are turning them down.what is happening here.[self arrogant pride]this is not the time for pride.
I am deeply touched by the heart-wrenching tragic saga of villagers due to havoc played by Tsumani on 26th Dec.morning.
I would like to contribute in my small measure way towards 'Auroville Fund' and would be sending a cheque for 'Auroville Tsnami Rehabilitation' very shortly.
The Mother and Sri Aurobindo give us inner strength to bear these gigantic tragic losses stoically.
Having been to Auroville twice, it saddens me to read the stories posted. the wonderfully warm and helpful people of this community are reason to appraise as the efforts by them are truly applaudible. i will definitely be sending my contributions to those affected.
