When will we think?
by Prashanth Ghattadahally on Dec 29, 2004 05:30 PM

From past 3-4 days I am watching televesion news channels for tsunami updates like watching a cricket match bewteen India & Pakistan. In both the cases only one thing matters i.e, the numbers ! But unfortunately in the former case, the score will increase in thousands unlike 2 digit numbers in a cricket match. Probably when I finish writing this article, it will even cross 70,000 and may be 1,00,000 by the end of this week.

Was the impact of this tsunami so deadly that more than half a lakh innocent people had to sacrifice their lives in a matter of just 2-3 hours ? This may not be the right time to raise questions as we are still not out of emergency yet but sooner or later we have to answer it.

India being such a responsible country, having a costal line of 7,000 kms (East) and having 1/6 of world's population, dont you think it is just utter ignorance that we are not having an intelligence system to warn about these deadly waves ! It is very true beyond doubts that if we were part of the international tsunami comitte comprising 26 nations, we could have saved atleast 50% of the casulaties.
Why do we always need such a diastrous incidents to think about our beloved
