So, what's really now in the Nikahnama!
by Shahela Zafar on Dec 06, 2004 03:54 PM

The Nikahnama,as it has been renewed, seems to show no signs of any attempt at reforms in the minds of the muslim clerics, who are still silent about the major issues concerning the women's right as an eqoal social human being, like talaaq and pudah. But it must be kept in mind that the Muslim community wouldn't be able to progress if its leaders keep on insisting on keeping a half its population opressed

MY VIEWS ON THE NIKHA NAMA-DRAFT
by Syed Humayun Siraj on Dec 06, 2004 02:11 PM

In my opinion yhere should be emphasis on equality of both the sexes as far as the responsibiliy of after-marriage-life is concerned.

Regarding 'TALAKH'-It should have a very stingent law in which the MALE or FEMALE should excersise at equality.MALE cannot have domininance in this regard.

We can always follow the system as exists in Pakixstan/Bangladesh.

comment on nikhanama

asslamu alikum

from long period i read in news paper about new nikhanama.it short according to my opinion with respect of higher scholars its nothing but the external treatment in society. just like a tree, if u care only the leaf of tree, instead of roots of the tree, it is not in a favour of tree.they should start form the ground level, education , moral awaerness, teaching of islam , make their ISLAHH and made them D'EE. built a sprit of TAQWA, (selfconsious) then and then the most imporatant part of life NIKHA will be sucsseful bcz the realknowledge of Islam will teach them adjusment and patein inlife.then no need for paper work.only selected verses is sufficeint for the whole life ,which prophetMuhammad bpuh is selected, for NIKHA KHUTBA

commitment towards ones wife
by musarrat on Dec 06, 2004 12:54 PM

stringent rules should be made for 2nd marriage, bcoz men take the shariah very lightly and marry again without the consent of his 1st wife.
if it is found that the 2nd marriage was performed without any genuine reason on the part of men, then he can be imprisoned or pay a hefty fine to the board as well as to his 1st wife.
special powers should be given to women to divorce his husband in case if his husband has an extra-marital affair or torture her physically and mentally.

nikahnaama for muslims is ready
by shaheen khan on Dec 06, 2004 12:47 PM

I have read the news item about Nikahnama for muslims and wondered what is progressive part of it.The very purpose of explicitly mentioning divorce process i.e divorce in stages (which i thought would be advocated)was not even discussed. Istead a lollipop of "the couple will try to avoid divorce as much as possible" it seems MPL instead of being directive authorityy choose only to give sermons. The present day plight of muslim women is ease of muslim men with divorce no matter how much we try to cover it the fact remains the women is at receiveing end. MPL has always maintained silence or indiffernce on this issue but still insists they are directive authority for muslims.why cna't they atleast explain talaq-e-hasna in their nikaahnaama and urge muslims to follow it i.e divorce in three steps with proper attempts of reconcillaition as mediation. This is what religion recommends too but MPL do not even mention it.
The present Nikaahnaam is nothing but old stuff packed with moral lessons all dipped in sugar candies.
