Let me tell you one thing though, as much you try.. you can't change your skin color and will always be Indian. Its backward because the rest of 90% population couldn't rise to the challenge and it still needs Reserveation to get a single job. Com on buddy. Lets compete and get our share. You also know that the evry predicament it all is based on is acceptance of the fact that the rest of 90% is not as sharp as 10% tha they can complete on merits.. So they keep asking for Reservations.
The upper castes form only 10% of the population, Praful? And they have 90% of the jobs, etc.? Absolutely positive? If yes, then it seems very justified that things remain that way. If 10% people hold 90% power, they must be that intelligent, that meritorious. Good, Praful.

Dear praful, Howsoever it is desired that reservation should go it seems it comes back with vengeance. Before the mandal commission, reservations were meant only for the scs and the sts, this was also opposed at every opportunity by the `HIGHER CASTES` who enjoyed reservations for 5000 years guaranteed under VARNASHRAM. After the mandal commission reservations are extended to the OBCs also, now this covers nearly 80% of our population. The situation under varnashram was just the opposite, and it was for nearly 5000 years, this could also mean that reservation is here to stay for a very long time. If our countries past is so glorious than the credit should also go to VARNASHRAM form of reservation (don`t you know that the meritorious EKLAVYAS thumb was cut just to avoid competition to the mediocre called ARJUN and even then it is said that our past was rich and glorious). Going by this analogy if varnashram guaranteed us glory in the past lets hope the present form of varnshram reservation for the backwards will also bring us a bright future. 50 years of reservations is too short a time, we still have 5000-50=4950 years to go. Its law of nature buddy ! Nobody can do anything abt it.

Ekalaiva wanted to pay 'Guru Dakshina' since he knew that without the Guru's blessings, what he learnt would not be effective for his benefit. The Guru asked for his thumb for whatever reason. However, Ekalaiva had every right to refuse the Guru Dakshina and could have had the pleasure of defeating the 'mediocre' Arjuna. But he chose to offer his thumb of his own will for his own benefit because he knew without the blessings of the Guru he would not have been in a position to defeat even an ordinary Archer. But by offering Guru Dakshina he ensured glory for his future lives.
It is despicable of course to discriminate and justify it with scripture. The article is based more on emotion rather than facts. I am not foolish enough to say that there is no discrimination against Dalits etc. India is not ruled by Brahmins, but by those who want to call themselves Sudras, Dalits as a right-their solution to help the down trodden is to punish the so called upper castes at every opportunity. They never want to leave their caste and yet want to throw dirt on others. No country in the world ever did more to reverse it than India. US does not reserve any thing for any body-you want the job because you are black-they will kick your A. You want to call yourself black, Hindu, Muslim or Christian is your personal business. But in India, with the run away reservations which are kept for generations by elites like Bidwais, leaving the brothers and sisters he is grieving for in the lurch-preaches that the damn upper castes do some thing for those from whom he him self snatched the privileges. The upper castes are doing something, but certainly not Bidwais. You only incite hatred without a solution with you out of context quotations. These are all not written by Brahmins or so called upper castes, many are written by the Dalits you are talking about-including Ramayana, Mahabharata etc. Brahmins only preserved them intact against great odds and sacrifice. Studies after studies and reports after reports have shown that we still have a long way to go, and this article and the wokring US-model rightly points out that the dailts need to be supported not only in governmnet jobs but in all avenues of growth, including private companies. We need lot of such honest articles/research which show the true pictures and justify the affirmative actions.
