Basically asking good questions
by Indu Mudigonda on Oct 14, 2003 03:48 AM

All Arvind has doine is asking basic questions.
We indeed sympathise with the victims of burning.
But while dealing with "cases" in a court, they have to deal the case based on the merits of the facts told
and not by the emotional appeal of the case

Anyway, it is time NHRC should start looking into anti-Sikh riots of 1984, 1993 Bombay blast trials and other incidents where victims have lost because of "reatraction of statements" by key witnesses.

Court's comments and conduct
by Shashidhar on Sep 20, 2003 04:06 PM

It is sad and painful to note the recent trend of judges making sweeping statements on everyone else concerned ! Their penchant for rabble rousing rhetorics is plain playing to the gallery. Time and again, they have condemned in an outright and overboard manner the States conduct, exhorting them to protect public interests or resign and go home! Great show, your honour! By the same logic, if the courts cannot ensure justice to the common man, will the judges also resign and go home? Justice delayed is justice denied. Justice should not only be done but also perceived to be done. What about the rampant corruption reported in the judicial departments ? We all know how the various corruption charges against judges have been conveniently swept under the carpet. The honourable judges should exercise sensible restraint before shooting off their mouths! They only get away from criticism due to the fear of 'contempt of court' charges, which they selfishly wield on everyone else concerned. Your honour, if you wish to be honoured, please conduct yourself honourably !

Facts and Emotions
by subbu on Sep 19, 2003 09:20 AM  | Hide replies

Lavkare has raised certain fundamental issues. But the response column indicates that the readers have reacted emotionally, mostly divided on communal lines. That shows that most of those have no logic. It is simple to understand that a person lying under oath to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, seeking no protection from any authoroity at any time in the course of the long proceedings, now turning to say that there were threats, is a laughable entity. How does one know that the person now claiming threats is not doing so under similar threats from quarters that are not pleased with the verdict?

I bet you won't laugh when you find yourself in the same situation of Zahira. Subbu its easy for you to laugh and criticise people who are forced to lie for the fear of life. Your comments speak of utmost stupidity and the ostrich-with-its-head-in-the-sand approach. So stop making a fool of urself and try to be honest at least to yourself.

Lots of readers have expressed righteous indignation but few have denied the facts. Has Arvind gone wrong with the facts somewhere? This is the main question. IF not, why the hell is everyone getting so worked up? Facts are facts. Opinions can go to hell.

oh you don't mean the english media is biased do you ?
by rajan on Sep 16, 2003 06:05 AM  | Hide replies

this article has upset a lot of people, and that is a very good thing. the people upset by all this are the left wing socialists, and any time they are sad, normal people should be happy.

socialists are unable to stomach that the english language indian press is infested with left wing rabble, and that these same rabble are biased. its good that rediff writes such inflammatory articles. it gets the lefties really hot and bothered, and that is the way it should be. keep the left hot and bothered while india quitely but surely moves ahead

Lavakare 's good article
by subbu on Sep 15, 2003 05:45 PM

Lavkare has raised very pertinent and logical points for the judiciary and the NHRC to ponder over. A person who publicly acknowledges that he or she lied under a solemn oath to say but the truth should be considered an utterly unreliable person. For the media to have given wide and unmerited coverage to such a person shows the sickmind of the media. Did the witness ever write to the judge, the prosecutor, or any media or NHRC that there was threat and therefore she had to lie? The right course is to proceed against an admitted liar for perjury.

Shielding his Bosses !!!
by Makarand Sane on Sep 15, 2003 05:05 PM

Lavkare is doing nothing but shielding the culprits in RSS parivar that are his bosses resposible for the gujarat Rioting. The court of law requires evidence. An accused is rendered as criminal only when there are evidences against him.But if the evidences are absent or made weak or purposly destroyed then the accused is exonerated. The same thing happend in Best Bakery case. The same thing happend in the massacre of our sikh brothers in 1984.Lavkare would write an article against the 'Atrocities' of the congressmen in 1984.But he would support what happened the aftermath of Godhra.because Whatever his Bosees do he's to support it.rest everything is injustice.Right from the begining the RSS people have adopted the policy of accepting 'Selective truth' and not the 'Absolute truth'.One should not forget that the RSS has its inspiration from the Hitler and his Nazi party. So his article cannot be taken as a surprise.People who do not believe in justice cannot render and support justice.
Vande Mataram !!! Makarand Sane
