Safdar Hashmi - legacy for future generations
by Shubhra on Dec 18, 2003 10:05 AM

Safdar Hashmi died when I was in college. He made a deep impression on me and many of my contemporaries. I found it profoundly moving to read about the kind of legacy the man left,
the devotion to truth and justice that he inspired that - witnessed in the fact that his wife completed his work the day after his funeral by finishing the play he was running in Sahibabad. Its unfortunate that neither the Congress nor the BJP have either the political acumen, sheer ability, statesmanship, courage of their convictions nor the maturity to realize that its these so-called fringe characters who make India still vibrant, alive and worth dying for. Patriotic speeches and raising the flag are just easy manifestations of the feelings that these strong men have shown, at the cost of their lives.
Despite the inordinate delay in justice, I can only thank God that justice was granted, which too often is also by-passed, poor consolation though it is for the family. I hope his family knows that
many of my generation will remember and forever be in his debt for his actions.

Waiting for justice for so long and giving the verdict after 14 years is enough to prove how speedy the trails are .The accused have still various options left and justice is still a long way to to be reached.

SAFDER HASHMI

It reflects on the judicial system of the nation when a murder committed in broad daylight in front of hundreds of people takes 14 years in the courts. What to talk of judicial system it reflects on the country itself. Fact is that our democracy is a farce. If one has power and money anything is possible.Period.

Have they got convicted?
by Sunil on Nov 05, 2003 05:51 PM

It is not matter, how long you live, it matters what you did.

Sir, you are still alive in peoples heart.

We could pay the least respect that we can pay to your family and everybody that believes in humanity after 15 years!!!!

Sir, we are really ashamed of ourselves.

You are still alive in us as power, which cannot be subdued by money and muscle , and you will be there always.

With hearty condolence to your family,
Sunil

Titel story

Mr.Safdar Hashemi died for a just cause and his murderers will be punished.Mr Hashemi was a true Indian and the hope is, that his way of living will be followed by others. The title crusader is misleading and unfortunate though, since crusaders were creating doom to Muslims in West Asia!

Decision of court in Safdar Hashmi murder case
by Mohit Kumar on Nov 05, 2003 11:23 AM

The belated decision of the court has brought some satisfaction. Safdar's life is an example for others to follow. Unfortunately, people know only a little about him. Rediff has done a good job by bringing an article on him.
