The verdict shows just how lax our judicial system is. It has taken such a long time just for the man to be declared guilty. In the meantime poor Naina's parents pleas fell on deaf ears. The punishment for this man who had the gall to burn someone to death should be most strict and should serve as a lesson for people who want to follow in his footsteps. The men should be shown that they cannot behave the way they want burning, beating and killing woman.
Now that the Delhi Court has convicted Sushil Sharma, Mr. Sharma will approach another higher court, which would result in addition of another case and thus further time delay. If the higher court also convicts Sushil Sharma, he will approach more number of higher courts, thereby delaying and thus denying justice.
What took place is terrible. The time the courts took to convict Sharma is worse. The media coverage is the worst. The judiciary is letting cases linger and the educated public is losing faith in the judiciary and the police. A theft took place at my wife's home in 1997. The accused were known to the police, and one of the thieves was the son of a policeman. The case remains unresolved, and i get court notices to attend court that threaten me with non bailable warrants. Sad state indeed.
