Dear Mr. Gautier, Thank you for an excellently written article. It is a well known fact that the Hindu religion & Hindus are the most tolerant amongst all religions. This was brought out very well by the Great Swami Vivekananda in his famous address in the U.S.A. So, we are tolerant of some blokes ranting about the Hindus & Gujarat riots etc. even if they are Hindus. However, the facts you have brought out need to be propogated amongst all the Indian diaspora and even amongst the Western people who have litytle or no knowledge of the facts. I wish you had a way of propogating & publishing thew facts both in India & abroad in several languages.

Heed the New Hindu Mood

Dear Mr. Gautier:

I thank you for great writings and clear views and ideas.

People like Pankaj Mishra or Angana Chatterji will sell their moms and wives to "inglis" sahibs for a few dollars more. They are irrelevant.

Unfortunately, as Indians we are a emotional lot which hinders our rational thinking severely. As a result we have been in a state of trance since ages. I don't know if we were like this always.

However, now we are free and have found a new face. I am certain that with a little guidance and vision we will emrge with our original and ancient identity. Of tolerance, love and eternal peace. And with that we will embrace the whole world... even the few hating muslims.

On dot, yet again
by Badri on Mar 14, 2003 04:43 AM

Dear Sir,
I read the article, and find it bang on target!
but as you urself, put it so succintly, dont u think all this is meant to happen?
We, Hindus, if we pride ourselves in onething, it is Tolerance, and tolerance towards such people, who have time and again stood against the principles of love.
If you read the the Works of Swami Vivekananda, there is one incident which comes to mind. Swami Viv.. goes to somnath temple and cries there, as he hears stories of muslim invaders destroying the temple, and cries that if he was there, he would have stopped the violence on the temple, and then he has a revelation, God speaks to him and he says that if he wanted to stop the violence he would have, but the fact that it happened, meant that he wanted it to happen!
why? god knows, but there is evidence in southern india to prove that God has saved his temples if he has wanted, there are evidences in Madurai and other temples to prove that the temple was covered in sand during the reign of the muslim invaders..
If you ask me if violence is right? NO..violence of any sort is wrong. but, the point i said above..i wonder...
any comments?
cheers
Badri

good work rediff. thanks for publishing such frank and honest columns.
I really enjoy reading all the columns written by Gautier and mv kamath. they do lot of research and then write the frank and honest facts.
India really needs people like these to guide them instead of so called secularists who are chamchas of nehru / gandhi family.

Thanks.
Ruchi

Psuedo Intellectual Posturing
by Shankar Sarkar on Mar 13, 2003 11:18 PM

I am sure as literate individuals, Pankaj Mishra and Angana Chatterji are both quite aware of the "real" situation. It is their psuedo-intellectual posturing that leads them to voice such dissenting and critical opinion on Hindus. Perhaps they find it fashionable to portray a false and damaging image which is easily palatable for the foreign media.

Hindu liberalism and acceptance
by Shankar Sarkar on Mar 13, 2003 11:06 PM

Pankaj Mishra and Angana Chatterji would have had "fatwas" issued against them for such biased opinions had they been in any Islamic country with even legitimate criticism for their ways. They should minimally appreciate our embedded Hindu philosophy of liberalism and acceptance, allowing them such freedom of expression which long precedes "fundamental human rights" as defined by the Western civilizations.

The article indeed is an eye-opener which is unbiased and authentic argument. It's a shame that the hindus(NRI's)stoop so low to condemn their own fellow beings.
So, BRAVO! we want more of such articles to "educate" the ignorant "educated" people on this issue.
Chaand.
