Frontline Expose
by kaus sinha on Dec 24, 2003 04:25 PM

While every member of the news industry has been harping on Army's victory in Op Sarp Vinash, the 'expose' by frontline has been duly sidelined. It is important for a democratic India that all voices must be heard and acknowledged. I am not asking for a statement from Ministry of Defence or DGMO but a little aknowledgement from other members of the media fraternity. Even though we are very proud of our Army, we have to understand that not everything is alright with this premier institution. High time the press started highlighting the Politicisation of Armed Forces or else we could be on the verge of losing confidence on an organisation we are all part of.

Unfortunately our political leaders don't have army training.....physically and mentally. India has always been a soft state....pak attacked....and we went to the UN like a fool.....china attacked....we were sleeping.....BANGLADESH killed our men....and what did we do...?

An indian soldier's life is taken for granted.....look at the US, a single body bag means so much to them...Its time we ended the menace...but.....to take such hard measures....the current political crop is useless....some army man alone can do it.

.. in our fight against terror in the valley. Am not an expert, but my feeling is that our goverment sends in troops always with their hand tied. Sometimes even for taking tactical decisions the head of the forces need to go through an elaborate process. Also more funds should be provided to the forces and also our political gurus should understand the fact that they shouldn't go for kickbacks at least when it comes to procurement for the armed forces. This is where a person may have to give up his life so that our country is integrity is never questioned. We should at least make sure that he is able to protect himself while protecting our country.

Operation Sarp Vinash.

Major General Ashok Mehta's article assures that against enemy intrusion our country is safe in the hands of our armymen.
For me the said earlier "lapses" matter very little. "It is still not too late" says the writer. I fully trust him.
I don't like people in media (and elsewhere) who are bent upon drawing public attention to the earlier lapses and failure. They pose the questions like "Why wasn't it done earlier?" "Who is responsible for earlier inaction?" etc. etc.
Such questions are killer questions. Not only in the field of military operations but in any field they make the person who takes initiative and solves long-standing problem repent for having done it. They also "caution" others from taking initiative for the fear that they may have to face similar questions which may implicate themselves.
Our media people should think about the long-term effects of their fault-finding policy.
One more thing. I've heard it costs much less to train a terrorist than a soldier. That's why Pakistan is sponsoring terrorists. Can we think of developing counter terrorists instead of deploying more soldiers?

To all those u laid their lives...

Hats off to our brave men, you surely have it in you.
This was undoubtedly one of the best operations carried out under the aegis of Indian Army. With more sophisticated arms, the PARA's and the SF are going to outshine!!! Our men have the grit and courage. We proved it last year when special forces competed. We are the best and the world shall see...
