The author seems to support Islamic Jehad in the guise of rationalisation. Just because others are indulging in crime, my crime does not become any less. The author should understand that true nationalism does not divide people but unite into a common bond. The people who speak against nationalism have not contributed a bit to our national independence. They even oppose singing of Vande matram. The author quoting that even Gandhiji supported Khilafat movement is out of place. Anyway what did Gandhi achieve by supporting Khilafat movement - The partition of the country and three bullets in his chest, and nothing more. Rather Jehad is the chief dividing factor of people of various creeds. The author should have guts to call spade a spade.

What's your problem with VHP? Have you ever tried to see what they do or what their ideals are? They are just propogators of Hinduism, so what's wrong with that? Atleast they dont bomb towers and trains and kill innocent people like the Islamic movements. What's the problem in having a hindu party or a movement in India where the major population is hindu? Atleast we are not depriving any other community from any rights!! If Islamic movements start supporting bin Laden, hindu parties would def. get pissed off, even a common hindu man does. So get your facts correct and say something rational and secular in true sense.

Saying inflammatory things peacefully?

The tenor of those who have issued statements decrying the ban on SIMI has been that they (SIMI leaders) have been talking "irresponsibly", or have been making inflamatory speeches, but "peacefully". It is important to note that the very same thing has landed no less than an NDA Member of Parliament (Vaiko) in jail for more than a year now.

I often hear about people comparing VHP,RSS to some of the terrorist outfits,it's a pain to see such comments, because VHP & RSS do not prepares bombs, get trained in neigboring contries to kill people, damge public properties, they are only anti minority not anti india
SIMI and such islamic organisations are always anti india even when they are given all rights in this country, looks like they are not satisfied with one pakistan and need more

BAN OF SIMI
by J.N. Kini on Jul 25, 2003 06:44 AM

A Paper Tiger or not, any organisation with pronounced features of anti-national activities should be curbed and has been done so by the Ban.One cannot compare SIMI and ABVP or VHP. The internal security risk posed by all these organisations, exist at different levels. SIMI's aim to internationalise Islam by starting disruptive activities within India is at the highest level of security risk since it involves activity by an organisation to intentionally harm a country. Whereas ABVP and VHP do not indulge in activities with the intention of harming the country but these activities could lead to law and order problem in the Country, which could be controlled or curtailed.

SIMI - POTA ban
by Deep on Jul 25, 2003 06:22 AM

The govt has done an absolutely correct thing by banning SIMI. Those who compare SIMI with ABVP and VHP, either dont understand what SIMI is or what the later is. VHP and ABVP have never been involved with terrorism, but for SIMI, it has been proved. Look at the anti-nationalist slogans, and talks of jihad.

As for SIMI having less support and declining support, its better that an organization like SIMI is checked and rooted out now, than waiting for it to grow big and then face another Kashmir. Organizations like SIMI are nothing but parasites. They live in this country, on the wealth provided by this country and slowly bite it into pieces.

Does Islam preach this?? Then sorry folks, in that case Islam is not even fit to be called a religion.
