Gadi (American University)
I agree

I agree. I am from Israel and often feel I have more appreciation to India and its culture and heritage than many Indians I meet abroad or even in India.
I am trying to find out how many Indians or ex-Indians are teaching in universities in the world or the USA and would appreciate your help if you send it to luckygadi@yahoo.com. Thanks.

Very good article

Thanks to Mr. Ravij. It shows more light. I think British people created a feeling among Indians that Indians are inferior to them. This feeling has to be removed.

Its really great

Respected,
I really appreaciate your concern and work done and in process for Building of Indian Brands, I have a keen interest in the Topic and even writing my Thesis for it. I really want to say that one we (Indian Players) focus on stage Players then back stage players we can take a lead in long run which is very much essential for us.Keeping in Mind the demand for our services and exports in pipeline we can make strong base in the niche market around the world with our traditional and designer talents which is there in bulk in all of us.Why not to take a lead in this is the major question? What are the forces behind the barriers which our brands are facing and can they(barriers) be removed?

What I think
by Raman.Guntaka on Dec 24, 2003 08:45 PM

Heloo,
I think "Chinese scholars have worked for decades to create a coherent and cohesive Chinese Grand Narrative that shows both CONTINUITY and advancement from within" continuity is the key. Chinese economy its more continuious to us.Policies should focus on providing cheapest source of daily needs to the common man.
Not only Yoga,Ayurveda but also Philanthropy,Astrology,Philosophy, arts and so many more areas can be marketed. These have already been written to us, all we need to do is research and understand.
I enjoyed reading your coloumn Mr.Rajiv, I wish you could do the same with mine.Whats the procedure involved in sending an essay.
Thank you
Raman.Guntaka

India Brand? What is that?
by Vivek on Dec 18, 2003 07:38 PM

There is a disconnect between two articles. The title of the first article itself states the author's unwillingness to understand reality. Promoting India Brand is a big joke. In fact, applying business concepts to a country or economy is all nonsese, more so marketing and promotion.

Who are others to preach and teach the donors what they should do with their money? Anyone giving a grant for a study has very well determined his objectives. It is senseless to rope them all under one mission statement and all that goes with it.

Going back to marketing concepts, a strong product becomes a brand only after it is well established in the market and then one talks of exploiting the brand to push the product further. In case of India, the product itself is rotten and no effort to make it a brand would improve the product.

The modern India is a country of contradictions, for that matter every emerging market is, it is only a question of degree. There is lot more to do in India to improve the product. Unfortunate, part is that when some Indian Americans want to help that in a small way in India, no one is interested.

Rajiv Issar
Rajiv Malhotra's Article
by Rajiv Issar on Dec 15, 2003 08:43 PM

Listen Bud,

First of all, who cares about what America thinks! Secondly, you sound exactly like the same intellectuals you are complaining about. Thirdly, let's get this right, it's not India that you should be talking about but Hindu's. Muslims and Sikhs have no problem with their image since they do not identify themselves with India but their religion. Plus, Ive never seen such a fragmented group of people than Hindus.

Finally, I'm not the smartest dude on the planet but you need to re-think and re-focus you're energies because you're missing the boat. Thats a problem with many Indians, they are too smart for their britches and once on this intellectual high ground tend to look at things in a perverse euro-centric way or for you the American way.

Ive read the other messages in response to youre article and they were all positive and complimentary and this to me is frightening. Especially, since I know all these people (including yourself) are more educated and have more experience in such matters than I.

I could go on but I know this is falling on deaf ears or in this case eyes.

Thanks,
