RE: Why should SARS affected persons be asked to leave?
by Sathyamoorthi on Apr 12, 2003 11:56 AM

It is absolutely meaningless to ask the SARS affected persons not to stay in our country, as suggested by one of our fellow country man. They are victims of the deadly virus. They haven't done anything that bad to deny them medical assistance. It is our medical community's responsibility to identify the cause of the problem soon and mitigate the risk of SARS. Untill the way is found, on humanitarian basis, we need to provide them all possible medical help with enough precautions, so that it will not spread futher.

SARS suspect should not be allowed in
by Vengatanarayan on Apr 08, 2003 02:49 PM

It is for the safety of our country, any passenger landing at the Indian International Airports, having SARS symptom, should be asked to leave our country immediately.

We need to understand that if we start treating these patients, the chances of Hospital staffs such as Doctors and Nurses, getting infected is very high. In turn, the innocent people who will be in touch with these hospital staffs will also be infected.

In thickly populated countries like India, the prevention of spreading the communicable disease would be considered as difficult task.

As a precautionary measure, the Government of India should not allow the Foreign Passengers, who are suspected as SARS Patient, to land on Indian soil.

If you call this idea as inhuman, then you could not see any Human in India.

SARS

It is important to report the latest on the killer virus. Good work!!

But, what the doctors implying? If Rebecca is not a victim of SARS, its fine. But, in case she is, all people she has been in contact with at the hotel are at great risk of contracting the disease, and through them other. This is exactly the way that the virus has speard. What amazes me is that knowing fully well the impliactions, how can the doctors say that first let us see if she has the disease or not!!

It is of paramount importance that the others who she has been in contact with, be tested, otherwise it could very well lead to an outbreak in this country!

Why are we even thinking of leaving it to chance when we are only too well aware of the consequences? It is this kind of negligence that has caused the disease to spead in the first place. The docs should think before they act!!

SARS Scare
by purniah on Apr 08, 2003 12:03 PM

We hear a lot of noise about air travellers. But what about travellers who cross our land borders with China/Tibet? Some of these people may not even know that they are infected! Is someone looking into this aspect?

americans are not world citizens (deport her)

A sars patient in mumbai, an american citizen should not be treated back here but deported to her country. Why should India/Indians risk themselves for an american citizen. If it would have been an Indian in america he /she would not have met with the same treatment.let us also discriminate between Indians and the rest of the world let us also show them that they are not special world citizens to be treated specially in any part of the world.
I am happy that Jaslok did not admit her and she was sent to a government hospital but there is no reason that she should recieve treatment at a subsidised cost and we should put our citizens at risk for the sake of a foreigner.

I think you are being totally paranoid. I do not think america or for that matter any country in the world would send back the patient. If one takes the necessary precautions the doctors and nurses would not get infected. Also, if we start doing this, then treatment meted to us will also be same. So do not jump your gun by saying people have been sent back in America etc. because that is totally false if you read news from around the world. There are a few asians with SARS being treated in european countries and also one in America. So please do not speak in ignorance and spread hate and panic amongst people.

Rajiv
