Indian Troops
by Gem on May 07, 2003 08:16 AM

I was just wondering about the Indian troops winning the war games in Africa - we should be proud of this, but there seems to be hardly anybody (including the media) to be interested in this. Thanks VB for presenting good facts.

Infrastructure to kill!!!
by sanjiv on Apr 16, 2003 04:49 PM

Ours is not an infrastructure to kill. That credit goes to our neighbour. Ours is an infrastructure to defend and protect and we should be proud of it.

Varsha, it's not your fault
by cw on Apr 14, 2003 10:40 PM

Varsha,it's not your fault when you read the anti-American news reports and believed them. There was a war of perception. In fact, there's someone writing about how "brave" the Iraqi army and how patriotic it's citizens have been to inflict massive casulaties on the American "oppressors". In fact, your Prime Minister came out de facto for Saddam Hussein - another anti-American blunder, no doubt fueled by the anti-American left in India. More miscalculations and mistakes ahead, though, I'm sure.

cant it be a little more simple yet expressive??
by vijay on Apr 13, 2003 01:46 PM

"I wonder how the dipweeds square their sorrow for an invaded Iraq with the obvious ideology of the Iraqis, viz, nationalism, that which they so despise!"

I appreciate rediff for detailing so much about the current war situation. With all due respects I would say, the above sentence which I picked as an example, I bet could be put in a more simpler sentence and yet convey a similar meaning. It surprises me why news articles use this level of "flowery" words to describe something. Is there a rule that news articles in WWW is not the "cup of tea" of laymen?? I wonder if anyone noticed it though.

vijay.

Clutter does not make an article
by Anjan on Apr 12, 2003 12:09 AM

Does Miss Varsha think that some chaotic article will win her kudos? Does she think that filling in gaps by words like "uff" will impress readers? Does she think that her style of arranging graffiti on the screen will make her seem "revolutionary"? My dear, an article should first make some sense, then should you experiment with style.
Moreover, you donot have any convincing argument whatsoever, no useful statistics, no analysis. And it is staggering how rediff risks its readership by endorsing such writers.

Varsha Bhosle on The Iraq War

I found this article to be interesting but not surprisingly a little biased. Varsha must remember that a number of these soldiers in the US army are 18-20 year olds. Kids basically just out of high school. Of course they are going to make some mistakes. No amount of training will prepare one for every eventuality and mistakes will bound to happen. That is the nature of being human. While politicians are certainly far from blameless in this situation, you cannot blame them for everything. It amazing how so called experts are quick to judge this campaign as a failure or success on a day to day basis. I was surprised and pleased to learn about the Indian armed forces contingent winning the challenge contest. Speaks volumes for the soldiers.

I think the best manner to read these articles, whether it be liberals or conservatives is to read as much of the information out there and form your opinions. Varsha or Dilip or any other commentator is going to provide you with selected facts (with healthy dose of their opinions) to support their arguments.
