How much?

As usual, long winded and BORING!
Not to mention a lack of coherence and insight.
Does this guy get paid by the number of words?

The so called "death" of masala films as the writer states is relevant only to bollywood. Masala films are pretty much alive and kicking in the south - especially tamil and telugu. And we have gems like Lucifer and Petta popping up on a frequent basis.

The situation Bollywood finds itself in is due to the fact that they have dumbed down the "masala" elements so much - to cartoonish levels at times. There is a lack of creativity evident in the number of remakes, box office duds from major studios and superstars. Add to the fact that bollywoods clout is waning with no star enjoying a pan india following now.

Finally, its not due upon the audience, but the kind of films bollywood churns out. Bollywood is asleep at the wheel. There are other people out there who are much better at this.

See the growing appeal of hollywood masala fare like MI and Avengers?

Mr Manoj RK,
Have wanted to write to you for some time; if only to help you cast off a few delusions you hold about yourself. Your comments -- which often seem to issue from an unmoistened reed in your brain -- for them to make any sense, ought to align themselves with the argument of a piece. By death of masala movies, I obviously, am not talking about B.O. figures or advance booking (If that was the case, I would have mentioned these movies by their names). B.O. is too a crude an instrument to measure what real public feelings are. This piece is specifically about the deadness and the weariness one has started to feel walking out of a masala movie -- and this, my dear man, is as true of an Avengers as it is of, say, an NGK. And the reason for this weariness is the approach to violence that you see in these movies: violence which is disassociated from pain.
Again, you make quite an figure of yourself when you say stuff like what you have said here -- as also your comment on my Mayaanadhi piece (I had explained the title there, but not in the one-line definition manner that the reed in your brain will understand). If you were a straight D, I wouldn't even have cared to reply, you see. I am making an exception here because you are just someone who thinks Lucifer and Petta are "gems." :) :)

A well warranted response, but one as usual that doesn't make much sense.
It's great to know that writers pay attention to the comment(s) section. If it helps offload some of the stuff that one's full of, so much the better.
