Watched Gully boy yesterday. While I liked the story line, the struggle to make it big one day, I can not say the same thing about the music. While it may appeal to the younger generation, it is not for every generation. With a little practice anybody can sing a rap, it is easiest of all music genres, it is like T20 of music, where if you have an ability to hit few sixes then you become great player, no real technique is required. Where as test cricket tests your patience, your techniques, you temperament and so on. Classical music falls into this category. Bollyood music, gazals etc. falls into one day category. The way they abused each other in the film in the rap competition was disgusting to watch.
This movie should be watched for Ranvir and Alia. Ranvir was top class and Alia's no nonsense approach to her love as well as career was commendable. She is probably the only actress in Bollywood, who not only looks good but acts well too. She dare to go for unconventional roles and still make the movie a commercial hit, unlike other actresses who stick to the dance or song routines, the usual mushy-mushy romance, the skin show kind of roles, Alia always selected roles where she looked natural and more near to reality. She is like Nitya Menon of South.
