Sadashiv Rao Bhau was a poor military strategist who massively underestimated the military strength of Afghans and their Mughal allies and showed overconfidence of facing them alone. Even if he dreamt of united India, that dream had already been shattered by his cousin Raghunath Rao who, inspite of being clever military general, ruined political relationships of Marathas with royal kingdoms of North India....

Sadashiv Rao Bhau was responsible for increasing the Maratha kingdom to other parts of India. Judging him as poor strategist is a wrong assumption. Friends turning foes, ally considered trustworthy revolted just before the war. The Afghan almost got defeated, remember he went away and did not stay. Marathas later went on to remove this Afghan from Baluchisthan too after this war. History always teaches us different things: 1. Our military were never prepared for the onslaught from Persian 2. Great King Prithviraj Chauhan failed to remove Ghouri 3. Bengal kingdoms gave away their empires to British very easily 4. Great King Krishnadewaraya was sabotaged by his own generals and lost the kingdom
It was Marathas who stopped the onslaught on the Hindu majority which was going on for centuries. Right from visionary The Great Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj till 1818, hindu religion had a chance to regain freedom from onslaught.
