TOH took the audience for very very expensive ride to "nowhere" during festive holidays. There should be some law to restrict such monopoly practice whereby a single movie plays on all the multiplexes and movie goers are left with no choice.
Nowadays nobody is interested in Thugs as one can see thugs daily in life. Where ever you go you will meet thugs. So it has become a part of routine life. So people dont like to see what they are doing. They are fed up of this. People want to see entertainment and mainly humour. Even today you can see millions of like on clippings of charlie chaplin movies on FB.

No matter what Rohit Satish says, the film is brainless copy of Pirates of Caribbeans and other western movies. Denigrating west will not be accepted more.
I have a suspicion that producers had given up on the box office prospects. Having recovered enough from selling off rights, they chose to write off any further on marketing this one. Aamir's nonchalant behavior on Koffee with Karan only confirmed the worst.
The references to far superior movies from the south (Malayalam in particular) though well warranted seem out of place. You should have compared with other Bollywood magnum opuses of the ilk like the Bhansali costume dramas or similar 'historical' movies like Veer.
High time these so called prestigious production houses stopped wasting money on packaging blockbusters without paying any attention to the content.
With regional cinema flourishing like never before, Bollywood is fighting a losing battle with far better productions from other parts of the country. Add to this the aging of the Khan trio, the nationalization of Akshay and inconsistent output from Hrithik, Ranbir and John. There's no star among the younger crowd who is an assured draw nationwide.
It's high time that Mumbai filmmakers cleaned up their act and started focusing on content.
A well written analysis of the movie. If Sreehari is still around, he could learn a thing or two from this.

TOH was okay but he has set a hugh expectations with the audience and with Mr Bachan it became even more bigger and surely did not live up to that. Rediff todays looks like they feel for Aamir and the person who wrote the review tore it apart. KRK did not even give any starts saying its not worth for even a single star.
TOH is not that bad when you consider that the protagonists are not upper class or mainstream characters. It has some good vfx and set designs for an Indian film. May be the expectations were high and it did not live up. Since I had none, I found it ok.
